Never Say Never to Navy

Back to basics today. Some things in the closet are utility pieces. Go to bottoms or tops that are a great canvas. Today we are looking at some of my favorite navy ankle pants. Simple, classic, and a great base for a killer outfit.

Banana Republic, Sloan Fit Slim Ankle Pant, $89 $49
Classic. A great silhouette and waistline.

A beautiful front seam pant that is going to lengthen your legs and give you a killer tush.

Unusual for a slim cut pant, working pockets! Good work Loft.

Don't hate me, I went a little rogue with this navy pant. It has simple dots on it and I'm not sorry.

Sometimes you want to shop for statement pieces; other times it's staple piece shopping. If you are looking for a do it all pant that isn't denim, navy is your go to.

Velvet Underground

Ok lovebugs, it's been a long week and it's time for some comfy class. I'm talking about velvet. I love velvet in December because it's dressy or casual. This fabric is perfect for winter and especially the holiday season. Let's look at some great velvet pant options.

I love Loft pants. You can throw them in the wash, you can wear them to work, you can wear them for play. They work for everything and they hold up for years.

JCPenny, Joe Fresh Velvet Pant, $39 $28
A great jogger option, this pant features a drawstring and a fitted ankle.

Ann Taylor, Curvy Velvet Slim Pants, $98 $59
The price is high, but these will be your go to pant in the winter. This chianti hue goes with green, navy, tan, you name it.

How about a navy option? I love the ankle crop because you can show off some sassy heels.

Try out some velvet this winter. It isn't as loud as plaid but it's perfect for the season.

The Gentlemen of Europe

And now for a brief history lesson: Culottes is a word that originated in the French language. Historically, "culottes" referred to the knee-breeches commonly worn by gentlemen of the European upper-classes from the late Middle Ages or Renaissance through the early nineteenth century. (source) Now we are seeing this style of pant pop up everywhere and I think they're perfect for fall. It's the comfort of a maxi dress in a pant. And they're worth a try.

Dorothy Perkins, Plum Crepe Culottes, $44 $27
A great work pant. Picture these with a simple t-strap pump

Anthropologie, Talavera Culottes, $98 $45
Look how cool this girl looks. Don't you want to throw on a silky blouse, sandals and a statement necklace and be like "Oh this? I just threw this on"

Asos, Navy Culottes, $57
So chic! Pockets, wide leg, classic navy.

Forever 21, Woven Pleated Culottes, $24
A great weekend pant with an elastic waistband for those bottomless brunch days.

Do not fear the culottes, they're going to offer comfort, style and a nice variation from your bf jean or pixie pant.

Old Faithful

Sometimes its about staples. Not the bold print, the cutting hemline, its about the perfect base that fits beautifully, and never lets you down. Today that is the black ankle pant. Not a legging, not a jean, a fitted, structured, black ankle pant.

It's not shocking that Vince Camuto makes a stunning pair of black pants. This pair is simple perfection.

Look at these great long lines. Clean and simple.

You don't have to spend a bundle to get a great pair of pants. I love Old Navy pixie pants.

A little bit of ponte adds the perfect amount of stretch with structure.

While I love talking about dots, stripes, florals, and color blocking, sometimes you just need a great pair of black pants. These four won't do you wrong.

Ponte Please?

Yesterday I mentioned the ponte pant. If you haven't discovered these beauties, they are a pant/legging mix that are more structured than a legging but stretchier than a jean or slack. Basically, perfectly professional and completely comfortable. Here are a few of my favorite options.

I love this brand. I wear their jeans and I'm thrilled they're now doing ponte. Look at this model's butt, it looks awesome.

Two words: elastic waist. Pair with a long sweater or button down.

MAJOR SALE ALERT!!! I love the heather gray option.

JCrew Factory, Gigi Pant with Pockets, $61
One of the things you sometimes give up with ponte is pockets. Not here. And in a simple navy hue.

I cannot recommend the ponte knit pant enough. It is a much more comfortable alternative to work pants and they go from desk to drinks easily.

Navy or Nothing

A few weeks ago we looked at a fantastic utility piece: the black cropped pant. You guys seemed to love it so today we're taking a similar look at the navy option. I love this color for a nautical look or dressed up with some neon baubles.

Banana Republic, Sloan Fit Ankle Pant. $89
955 reviews make this pretty much a sure thing. 5% spandex doesn't hurt either.

How about a nice pin tuck front pleat to dress things up?

I like this option because it has a button instead of a hook and eye, a little more stability.

A great cotton option for something a little more casual. Add a preppy belt and some flats.

I hope these navy options give you some ideas for your more colorful and adventurous blouses. These skimmers say 'give me pattern or give me death!'

Be Sashy

OK today might be one of my favorite styles for the year. The soft pant with a sash. It's easy to dress up or down and it's comfortable yet stylish.

Work or play, these pants do it all. Also comes in navy, black, or a muted pink!

Mango, Satin Sash Trousers, $13
Not many sizes left in these beauties, but not surprising because look at this price!

Beautiful. Just beautiful. I love this with a crisp button down shirt.

How about a beautiful gray wide leg pant that will look amazing with a heeled mule.

I love this trend because you can dress it down with slip on sneakers or dress it up with pointy toe flats.

Plaiding Ahead

It's almost November, which means it's almost full on winter, which means it's time to think plaid. Yep, I'm not holding back, I'm thinking ahead and getting my picks in now for plaid cropped pants. Not your wide leg or bootcut black and white plaid, and not your standard windowpane. I'm talking colorful, fitted, plaid.

I'm going to need these pants. Styled perfectly with a casual chambray as seen above, or add a navy silk blouse for your company holiday party.

I don't love the shoe pairing but this could very easily be swapped out with suede stilettos (PS going to need these shoes).

Anthropologie, Plaid Ponte Leggings, $89
Ok, these are technically leggings, but they have back pockets so they count. Plus leggings at holiday eating time? Don't hate that.

Wool with a touch of spandex? Yep and yep.

Are you brave enough for a plaid pant this winter? I can promise you the compliments will be abundant.

Soft Serve

Let's talk comfort and style. Soft pants. Love em? Hate em? I'm getting on board. Last year I was still on the 'these could be pjs, you guys' but now I'm all in. Styled with a crisp tee and dressed up with some fun jewelry, you've got a great look!

A great windowpane print that you can style for work with a great pair of block heel sandals.

What a stunning jewel toned pant. Add your own skinny metallic belt to dress it up.

Yeah, Old Navy. A great leg line that you can dress up or down with the right shoes.

A little paper bag waistline makes these pants fashion forward. Effortless.

A great soft pant is going to work for you now through the end of summer. Print or solid, these pants can be styled just for you.

Nothing But Net

Today we are going back to basics. We've covered the navy pant, the black pant and others- but today we're looking at a basic accessory: the hoop earring. Yes those hoop earrings.

Such a classic piece that you can wear with everything. Let's look at a couple of styles and price points.

Revolve Clothing, Huggy Hoop Earring, $77
A great hammered metal that is so sleek and understated.

French Connection, Hexagon Outline Hoop Earring, $18
I had to put these tortoise options in, I am kind of obsessed with them.

How about an unexpected rose gold hoop?

Loft, Hoop Earrings, $24 $14 with code FALLSTYLE
A simple yet solid option that comes in gold, silver, or bronze.

Hoop earrings have been, are, and will always be in style. They're a great investment piece but they're also easy to pick up on a budget.

Cropping Time

Let's talk spring pants. Your calves aren't quite ready for prime time because it appears they've spent several months in hibernation from the sun and, well, your razor. Enter, the wide leg crop. It is chic and sophisticated while still being spring appropriate with the perfect blouse.

These soft pants are a dream print and 40% off right now.

Allover lace. I repeat, allover lace!!!

Well hello chic and sexy. Workwear never looked so good.

Ok Old Navy. I see you getting all high rise and high fashion.

Break out those ankles and show some spring skin! But be tasteful and don't blind anyone.
