Mule Tide

Happy Tuesday lovebugs,
I had a lovely long weekend, and I won't rub it in too much because it seems most people did not have yesterday off. So sorry for your loss.

Anyway, let's jump right in with a fall shoe trend that is casual chic. The peep toe mule. On a brisk weekend day, these heels are the perfect addition to your outfit.

Originally $100, these are such a steal.

Asos, Hendon Mule, $69
What a great chunky heel and the buckle detail is very mod.

Steve Madden, Nonstp, $99
I love these. They come in tan, gray, black, or this rich cognac.

JCPenny, A.N.A Isha Shoes, $29
These shoes. You know how you're reading about the 70's fashion comeback? These. Shoes.

The mule trend is so far beyond your mother's chunky mules. This trend is very chic and it works with skirts, denim, you name it. Just please, I know it's fall, but let's make sure those toes are painted.

Be fabulous today!

Friday Foodday

Happy Friday lovebugs,
Here are my favorite recipes this week.

Apple Cider Sangria
c/o The Kitchn
Ingredients
2 apples, peeled, cored and thinly sliced
1/2 cup cognac
2 cups apple cider
750ml bottle cava (or other dry sparkling wine), chilled
1/4 cup pomegranate seeds

Directions
Add the apples to a large pitcher reserving about 1/2 cup for garnishing. Add the cognac, apple cider, and chilled cava. Stir.

Fill the pitcher with ice. Pour the sangria into glasses filled with ice and top with sliced apple and pomegranate seeds.

Oven Fried Buttery Chicken Legs
Ingredients
  • 4 tablespoons butter
  • 2 pounds drumsticks
  • 1/3 cup mayonnaise
  • 2 tablespoons milk
  • 1 1/2 cups ground butter crackers
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
Directions
  1. Preheat the oven to 425 degrees.  Place the butter in a cast iron skillet or cookie sheet and place in the oven to melt.
  2. Meanwhile, stir together the mayonnaise and milk in a shallow dish.
  3. Add the cracker crumbs, garlic powder, and salt to a large zip bag and shake to combine.
  4. Coat the chicken in the mayonnaise mixture and place in the bag.
  5. Seal the bag and shake to coat the chicken in the cracker crumbs.
  6. Remove the pan from the oven and place the chicken in the melted butter.
  7. Bake for 20 minutes and then flip the chicken over.
  8. Continue baking for 15-20 more minutes or until the chicken reaches 160 degrees.

Sour Cream Chocolate Chip Banana Bread
Ingredients
2 cups Flour
3/4 cup Sugar
3/4 tsp Baking Soda
1/2 tsp Salt
3 VERY ripe Bananas, about 1 1/2 cups
1/4 cup Sour Cream, or Greek Yogurt
2 Eggs
1 1/2 tsp Vanilla
6 Tbsp Butter, melted and cooled
1 cup Semi-Sweet Chocolate Chips

Directions
Preheat oven to 350 degrees.
In one mixing bowl, whisk together the flour, sugar, baking soda and salt. Set aside.
In the other bowl, whisk together the eggs, bananas, sour cream, eggs, and vanilla extract. Whisk in the melted butter until mixed in evenly.
Create a well in the flour, and add in wet ingredients. Using a rubber spatula gently fold the two sets of ingredients together until the two are just combined, and a couple of small flour streaks remain. Let the mixture set for a couple of minutes and move to the next step.
Spray a standard size loaf pan with non stick spray. Line the bottom and two sides with parchment paper, creating a cradle of sorts. Spray the paper again with non-stick spray.
Just prior to adding the batter into the loaf pan, gently mix in the chocolate chips until evenly distributed. Scrape the batter into the prepared loaf pan. Bake on the middle rack for 50-55 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted comes out clean.
Let the loaf rest in the pan for 10-15 minutes, then using the parchment cradle, lift the loaf out of the pan and place on a wire rack to cool completely. Slice, serve, and devour.

This Wine Has Great Legs

Last year we had a lot of variety in the jean category. We saw coated denim, quilted, washed, jegging, and more. This year I think we will be seeing a more colorful look. Deep greens, blues, and even reds. Today we're dipping our toes into the wine pool (best idea ever, right?) and looking at some deep merlot denim.

Talk about a steal. These jeans are the perfect shade of burgundy and I love the look with chambray.

American Eagle, Utility Legging Jean, $44
A great military/cargo pocket makes these perfect for a casual Saturday.

Saks off Fifth, Rag and Bone Skinny Jeans, $89
These designer jeans are 51% off. Such a great deal.

I used the backside picture for these jeans because I want to change your mind about Landsend. These jeans rule.

A deep burgundy jean is going to be the go to bottom in your closet. It is great with fall colors and it will transition beautifully to winter sweaters.
