Not Your Gramma's Crochet

So often you hear crochet and think Gramma. But this season it's actually quite chic. Check out these pieces.

Urban Outfitters, Staring at the Stars Crochet Tank, $54
The underlay color just pops and the scalloped hemline is divine.

I'm not usually a poncho girl, but the tie waist really brings it all together for me.

I love this overlay, so simple and chic in a sexy way.

Free People, Crochet Crop Top, $72
I love this crop top with the scoop neck. Great color combinations too.

How do you style crochet?

It's Easy Being Green

Hey lovebugs! Happy Monday to you. I hope you had a great weekend. Let's make this week fabulous.

Today I wanted to get specific. Colorblocking is something we've talked about already on this blog, but today I want to focus on one color in particular. Green. So often with colorblocking we see neons and pinks and oranges, let's look at a new punchy color, green.

I love this piece. It's funky, it's a great statement piece.

Collective Concepts, Colorblock Blouse, $64
The blue really pops on this blouse, I'd pair this with a cardi now and with a white skirt in the summer.

Payton, Dolman Sleeve Colorblock, $64
How great is this mod style sweater? The dolman sleeves really make it.

New York and Co, Colorblock Scarf, $20
I love this scarf, it would go perfectly with jeans.

Thoughts on green colorblocking? I think it's great for the cooler days.

Be fabulous today!

Friday Foodday

Oh finally! Foodday! Here are the recipes I'm loving this week.

Honey Terriyaki Chicken with Bacon Fried Rice
c/o Cassie Craves
Ingredients
For the chicken:

1 pound chicken breasts, cut into thin strips
Salt and pepper to taste
1 cup chicken broth
1 tablespoon freshly grated ginger
1/4 cup honey
1/2 cup teriyaki sauce

For the rice:

1 egg, beaten
1 pound bacon, chopped
1 cup mushrooms, chopped
1 medium onion, chopped
3 cups cooked rice
1 cup fresh bean sprouts
1 cup frozen peas, thawed
1/4 cup soy sauce

Directions
1. For the chicken, heat a small amount of vegetable oil in a large skillet. Season chicken with salt and pepper and cook until browned and cook through. In a separate bowl, combine chicken broth, ginger, honey and teriyaki sauce. Pour over chicken. Reduce heat and simmer until serving.

2. For the bacon, heat vegetable oil in a wok or large skillet. Pour egg into wok. As egg sets, lift edges letting uncooked portion flow underneath. When egg is done, move to plate and set aside.

3. In same wok, cook bacon until crisp. Remove bacon to paper towels. Reserve 2 tablespoons drippings.

4. Saute mushrooms and onions in bacon drippings. Stir in rice, bean sprouts, peas, soy sauce, and bacon. Chop egg into small pieces; stir into wok and heat through.

5. Serve chicken over rice.

Garlic Fries
c/o Table for Two Blog
Ingredients
5 russet potatoes, cut lengthwise, like you see in the above pictures

A good amount of vegetable oil (maybe 1/8 cup total)
5 cloves of garlic, minced
1 handful of parsley, finely minced
Salt and pepper
Directions
  • Preheat oven to 450 degrees and spray baking sheets with cooking spray. Set aside.
  • In a large bowl, add the cut potatoes and drizzle oil all over them and toss to coat the potatoes well.
  • Season with salt and pepper. Divide up the potatoes on two baking sheets and bake for 30 minutes, or until browned and tender.
  • After 30 or so minutes, increase the oven temperature to 500 degrees and bake for another 5-7 minutes until they’re crisp and brown.
  • In the meantime, in another bowl, mix together the oil, garlic, and parsley.
  • Once the fries are done, using tongs, put the hot fries in the bowl with the garlic oil and toss to coat. Season with salt and pepper, to taste.
