Staple Purchase: Trench

You guys,
I'm in the midst of a staple purchase.  What does that mean? It means I'm about to buy something that I will spend a little extra on because I will use it frequently and hopefully for years to come.  Much like the wallet post from yesterday.

Are you so excited to hear what I'm going to purchase? I know, I am too.  I am buying a Spring trench/rain coat/ bright color or patterned light jacket.  So many things this purchase needs to accomplish!  I've narrowed it down to a few choices.  Let me know what you think!

This is the front-runner right now. I like color, pattern, detachable hood and belt.

Nordstrom, Gallery Hooded Trench, $98
As I said before I do not want a khaki trench- this green is perfect!

How sassy is this? The ruffles are so cheery.

I love everything about this coat.  The lines are simple and clean, great length and that bow on the back.  Come on.  Love.

So what do you think? Did I miss any? When I'm doing a staple purchase I tend to mull over my options for at least a week before taking the plunge- so please, I'm open to suggestions!

Reader Request: Wallets

Happy Monday all!

How was your weekend? Any good sales?
Today's post comes from a loyal reader who wants an affordable and chic wallet.  There are tons of options when it comes to wallets, so many styles and types that it can be overwhelming.  But remember that your wallet is a pretty standard accessory, you probably won't be switching it out all that often so whatever you buy make sure it works for you.

If you're a college student with not much to carry, I suggest a magic wallet because they fit in a jeans pocket and they're easy to carry.  Now if you have so many gift cards and receipts that you think you could explode, I would suggest a checkbook style wallet- which is what I'll focus on today.

Kate Spade, Remy, $87
This is my everyday wallet (I have it in green) and I love it because its slim, has tons of pockets and, well it's Kate.

Fossil, Weekender, $48
I love Fossil for their leather products, super durable.  And this wallet has a fantastic springy lining!

Giftsandbeadshop, cotton wallet, $20
If you just want something fun and quirky for weekends, be sure to check out Etsy for great handmade wallets like this one!

Ted Baker, Rena Bobble, $85
I LOVE this wallet! It's so chic and compact!

In my opinion, wallets are something you should spend a little extra on.  Not necessarily for the label but for the quality.  Cheap wallets will fall apart; the zipper will get stuck, the glue will peel off, etc.  This is an accessory that for me is like a watch- I hardly ever change it.  So get something you love!

    c/o All Recipes
    Ingredients
    • PASTRY:
    • 1 cup milk
    • 1/4 cup butter
    • 2 (.25 ounce) packages active dry yeast
    • 2/3 cup warm water (110 degrees F/45 degrees C)
    • 1/2 cup white sugar
    • 2 eggs
    • 1 1/2 teaspoons salt
    • 1/2 teaspoon freshly grated nutmeg
    • 5 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
    •
    • FILLING:
    • 1 cup packed brown sugar
    • 1 tablespoon ground cinnamon
    • 2/3 cup chopped pecans
    • 1/2 cup all-purpose flour
    • 1/2 cup raisins
    • 1/2 cup melted butter
    •
    • FROSTING:
    • 1 cup confectioners' sugar
    • 1 tablespoon water

    Directions
    1. Scald milk, remove from heat and stir in 1/4 cup of butter. Allow mixture to cool to room temperature. In a large bowl, dissolve yeast in the warm water with 1 tablespoon of the white sugar. Let stand until creamy, about 10 minutes.
    2. When yeast mixture is bubbling, add the cooled milk mixture. Whisk in the eggs. Stir in the remaining white sugar, salt and nutmeg. Beat the flour into the milk/egg mixture 1 cup at a time. When the dough has pulled together, turn it out onto a lightly floured surface and knead until smooth and elastic, about 8 to 10 minutes.
    3. Lightly oil a large bowl, place the dough in the bowl and turn to coat with oil. Cover with a damp cloth or plastic wrap and let rise in a warm place until doubled in volume, about 2 hours. When risen, punch down and divide dough in half.
    4. Preheat oven to 375 degrees F (190 degrees C). Grease 2 cookie sheets or line with parchment paper.
    5. To Make Filling: Combine the brown sugar, ground cinnamon, chopped pecans, 1/2 cup flour and 1/2 cup raisins. Pour 1/2 cup melted butter over the cinnamon mixture and mix until crumbly.
    6. Roll dough halves out into large rectangles (approximately 10x16 inches or so). Sprinkle the filling evenly over the dough and roll up each half tightly like a jelly roll, beginning at the wide side. Bring the ends of each roll together to form 2 oval shaped rings. Place each ring on a prepared cookie sheet. With scissors make cuts 1/3 of the way through the rings at 1 inch intervals. Let rise in a warm spot until doubled in size, about 45 minutes.
    7. Bake in preheated oven for 30 minutes. Push the doll into the bottom of the cake. Frost while warm with the confectioners' sugar blended with 1 to 2 tablespoons of water.

    Have a great weekend everyone!
