Superhero Status

Let's talk capes. I think this outerwear trend is great for the holidays. Throw it on, travel with it, so easy and so versatile no matter what you're wearing.

Forever 21, Hooded Plaid Cape, $54
A simple and quiet plaid that is perfect for a cool afternoon date.

Topshop, Checked Cape, $52
What says fall better than navy and hunter green?

What did I tell you? It goes with anything and everything.

Urban Outfitters, Pattern Border Open Poncho, $79 [sold out! similar]
I'm so glad toggles are back. I love the casual feel of this warm accessory.

So capes. Thoughts? I think its a great way to layer when you have the opportunity to not wear your eskimo suit. Take advantage!

Get My Good Side

Skirts can get dull. No matter how you cut them, texture them, sometimes they're a bit of a yawn. Today we're looking at a new take on the skirt build, side panels.

You want New Year's Eve? Pair this skirt with a flowy black blouse.Va-voom.

Dorothy Perkins, Black and gold foil panel skirt, $29
I wish the waistband was a bit thicker but for the price, I'll buy a thick patent belt and add that.

Forever 21, Curved Panel Skirt, $15
I will preface this by saying DEPENDING ON WHERE YOU WORK, this skirt could be office appropriate if paired with a more demure top.

Topshop, Grid Panel Tube Skirt, $50
If you buy this, and wear it, you must count the number or whistles and stares you get and email me. Holy cow, get it girl.

Paneled skirts are a very easy way to add curves to a pencil skirt, which by name, indicates a stick.

Humpday Suede

Happy humpday lovebugs, we're getting there.

Today we're talking about suede clutches. Now that fall has really settled in, its time to bring out the suede accessories that have been tucked away during the warmer months. Take a look at these great smaller bags.

Pink, purple and turquoise. Are you kidding me? This is the most adorable suede color blocking clutch ever.

A little studding perhaps? This is the perfect going out bag.

I find this closure so interesting. And the colors are quite fall.

A great fold over bag that I would wear with jeans to run errands or meet a friend for coffee.

I have a mustard yellow suede clutch from Cole Haan that I got a few years ago after Christmas, it is my go to bag for fall because I can throw in my keys, phone and wallet and walk out the door. Keep your eyes open for a great suede clutch this season.

Collar Me Fancy

Happy almost Friday guys! We're so close!

Today I wanted to look at a great trend that isn't out of reach for us 9-5ers. The collar necklace. Now, there are a few definitions for this piece. Some define it as a tighter necklace, but I'm talking about a literal collar. Add it to a tee, a crew neck, anything for a little bit extra.

A little edgy but the metal work around the edges adds a feminine flair to this piece,

Hive and Honey, Hinged Collar Necklace, $30
Simple, chic, add it to an LBD and instant drama.

You can never go wrong with some preppy pearls.

This is quite the statement, if it wasn't for the slight scallop edge it would be biker-chic.

Forever 21, Sequined Collar Necklace, $10
For ten bucks, this shiny number is worth a shot!

Have you tried the collar necklace trend? It's a girly twist on any shirt or dress!

Brown Bag It

Happy Columbus Day lovebugs.  Most of Washington has off today but alas, I'm at work.  I hope you're sleeping in right now and have big plans to do absolutely nothing.

Today I thought we would look at a trend that I'm really loving right now: paper bag waist.  It's a great way to add interest to the mid section of an outfit and hide anything you want to in that area.

There are so many details going on with this skirt but they all work together beautifully: color, slanted pocket, waist, mini length.

You know I'm a sucker for dots.  I'd pair these with some tights for a Friday night out!

I love this skirt. So beautiful and you can wear it all year round.

J Crew, Heather lace mini, $50
Beautiful lace in a neutral gray. This would be really special with tights.

What do you think of the paper bag style waist? I think it's something a little different then the plain waistline.

Pleated Please?

Morning lovebugs!
Happy Monday to you.  Did you have a good weekend? I sure did.  Relaxing, a little bit lazy, a little bit social- just my kind.

Today I want to talk about a great detail to add to your wardrobe.  When done correctly it is super chic and preppy, when not....balloon-like.  Pleats!

Tommy Hilfiger, Chambray pleated skirt, $36!!!
Chambray (denim) is huge for Spring and Summer! Add pleats and adorable pockets and you've got your go-to item for the season.

Topshop, pleated frill dress, $90
I'm loving this swingy, airy dress for Spring.  Great color and the pleats add dimension to the silk.

This detail is quiet and sophisticated.  Perfect for work or pink heels!

Yoox, Adam by Lippes, $29
Let me be clear: I don't approve of pleats on shorts or pants unless you try them on; because 9 times out of 10 you will look like you're going to take flight.  However, if you find silky, soft shorts that are pleated, like above- snag them.  They're gorgeous.

I love this flowy top for work or play.  The color and pattern is so interesting and the pleats make a unique neckline.

So when you buy pleats, think two opposites: very flowy and light or very structured and preppy.  The inbetween will give you an extra 10 pounds!
