Short Story

Hey there lovebugs,
Usually I am pretty good at coming up with post ideas, but sometimes I get some help from friends, reader requests or family. Today my dad will spotlight because I can't not share his intro with you. It's downright poetic. Without further ado, I give you TCB's dad...

"Just in time for Spring. Don’t these colorful shorts look like Spring flowers? Face it, it’s been a long winter. We need to add some brightness into the world. Ladies, it’s time to shave those legs and make a statement with these casual and essential shorts that can be paired with almost any top, to be worn anywhere, at any time. And don’t forget those sublime belts to add an extra splash of the palette."

And now let's talk bright, spring shorts.

Oh hey there spring! Scallops anyone? These shorts are adorable. Dress them down with a waist tied button down or dress them up with heeled sandals and a silk blouse.

Vince Camuto, Foiled Silver Shorts, $89
I love the length on these shorts. The are dressy and downright spunky with the allover metallic and a bow.

How about a colorful floral? Switch out the camel belt for something metallic and dress them down with a lightweight sweatshirt.

Anthropologie, Pleated Twill Shorts, $68
A little menswear-inspired but punched up with this sunshine yellow.

We'll be talking shorts a few times this spring and summer but I would like to thank dad for kicking things off. I hope you enjoy these picks and treat yourself to a bright new pair.

Cat Got Your Eye

Let's talk shades. It's time to replace those sunglasses at the bottom of your purse. It's time to set aside those $6 CVS 'hold me over' sunglasses that you never ended up replacing. It's time to inject some feminine to your eyewear. Let's look at cat eye sunglasses.

Anthropologie, Caramel Cat Eye Sunglasses, $38
These smoky blonde beauties are perfect to transition with your spring color items.

Shop Ruche, Contessa Cat Eye Sunglasses, $14
Why yes, those are ombre lenses. Yum.

Urban Outfitters, Gold Coast Cat Eye Sunglasses, $18
An oversized metallic option for those beach days or road trips.

Asos, Cat Eye Sunglasses, $18
Cutting edge. Don't you picture Meryl Streep wearing these in the baddest way possible?

Not Your Average Needlepoint

As you know, I'm all about the details here on TCB and today will be no different. Embroidery is a difficult and intricate detail that adds quiet beauty to a piece. It's not a bold color block, its not an oversized graphic or pattern, it's quiet and charming. Let's look at some tops that use this detail beautifully.

A great layering piece in a year round blush.

This sweet top has a sassy mesh back perfect for warmer days or throw on a navy blazer and wear it to work.

A chic gauzy top that is a delicate treasure. Such simple details making a huge impact.

Strong black and white options are huge for spring and summer, this top offers a nice feminine touch to a sometimes harsh color combination. Check out the sweetheart neckline.

Embroidery is sometimes a more expensive detailed piece to add to your wardrobe, but try to think of the piece's versatility in your closet. Wear it alone, wear it over a dress and belt it, or mix it in with you standard suit.

I've Come Unbuttoned

Blazers are a great foundation of an outfit. They pull an outfit together. You can easily grab one to add on top of a dress, or a pair of jeans, or for the office. They come in so many shapes and styles and I promise there is one that will fit your lifestyle. Today I wanted to look at a more relaxed version of the blazer: the open front or draped blazer.

Don't you love this peachy blazer? Imagine it paired with some navy bling. Oh and those notched lapels. That's the stuff dreams are made of.

Dress this up, dress this down, add pearls or add spikes. This blazer does it all.

Nordstrom, Trouve Open Front Blazer, $98
For me, this is when you spend the $98. This piece will last you for years. This blazer is masculine in style but feminine in fit. The deep purple is perfect for the ox blood trend and the tuxedo style lapel is just stunning.

The title of this blazer is pretty spot on. It's essential. A simple navy, four season, just essential.

The open front blazer is a more casual version of the buttoned up look. It's cool and easy, but absolutely can be dressed up for any occasion.

Sunny Disposition

Happy Monday lovebugs,
I'm back from a lovely week long vacation, (didn't even know I was gone, did you?!) and it was great to unwind, relax and get some good reading in!

I'm still feeling a bit sunny from vacay, so today I thought we'd look at some sunny yellow pieces.

These ombre beauties are perfect to add a little bit of sunshine by your face.

Perfect little yellow ankle pants. Pair with a crisp navy blouse.

Anthropologie, Addie Skater Skirt, $88
The reason I chose this more expensive skirt is because its a four season item. Pair with chocolate brown boots in the fall, tights in the winter and then lighten it up with tops in spring and summer.

Modcloth, Just a Jubilee Top, $44
How easy breezy is this top? Bright yellow, sweet apple print. Just adorable.

So there's my sunny outlook for today. Do you wear yellow often? What are your favorite color pairings

It Is Easy Being Green

Hey there lovebugs, as you may know, my favorite color is purple. Bold purple. But a close second has got to be green. I love green because its such a statement color. Saturated or pastel, it always stands out. Today we're not looking at any style in particular, but rather some great green pieces that I'm loving lately.

Forever 21, High-Waisted Pocket Shorts, $15
High waisted, high drama. Wear heels, tuck in the shirt, own it.

J Crew Factory, Dangling Shapes Necklace, $29
Oh how lovely is this necklace? I'm pairing it with denim, a lace dress, or anything in between.

BC Footwear, Grass is Greener, $49
A great woven detail on this sandal. I also love the stripe of gold all around the sole.

A must own. Truly. Wear it traveling, wear it to a bridal shower, wear it to drinks with the girls, wear it to the pool. So simple yet so stunning.

Green is just one of those colors that pops on anyone. It's also a very easy color to mix with other colors, try coral, yellow, or navy.

That's One Funky Flower

Hey there lovebugs,
I'm pretty pumped about today's post, because I combined two really hot trends for spring and I have to say I'm a little proud of myself. Ok, brace yourself. The first trend: floral. Huge for spring, colorful and vibrant and so many options to fit your personal style. The second trend: mod. Mod is going to be pretty big this season. I'm talking big stripes, boxier cuts and a more 60s vibe for patterns. So today....drumroll....mod floral. Let's do this.

Modcloth, Prim and Posh Dress, $44
I love this dress. It is so chic and old school. The floral panel is understated yet intricate.

You really can't beat these colors. They are so fabulous and adorable.

No seriously guys. Big, beautiful print, perfect for work or play, $11.

Simple, sweet and the perfect addition to bf jeans OR a sundress.

How'd I do guys? Mod floral. It's going to be a thing. You're welcome.
