Paint the Town

Happy V day lovebugs,
The husband (!) and I celebrate Presidents Day not Valentine's so it's a normal Tuesday here. But I thought we could still paint the town red with some red pants!

What a great work pant that transitions seamlessly to happy hour!

A classic staple pant that comes in a handful of versatile colors.

Nordstrom Rack, Joe Fresh Corduroy Pant, $19
This price. Why not get a pair of casual and cozy merlot cords?

Forever 21, Faux Suede Culottes, $9
Ok so no go on the top but these crops! I love the wide leg flare.

So who is your valentine this year? Mine is wine and my dog.

Regal Ruby

Remember your grandmother's jewelry box? You would look in and see an array of shiny brooches, gold chain necklaces, and a variety of colorful stones. Who knew which were family heirlooms and which were thrift shop, but who cared? One of my favorite pieces was always the ruby. It was regal and feminine. The deep red was rich like a merlot. While I don't have heirloom pieces for under $100 today, I do have some fun ruby earrings that won't break the budget.

Ann Taylor, Jewel Stud Earrings, $29
This item's description is 'the perfect finishing touch'. I couldn't agree more.

The flush stone is very unique. Makes them a bit more of an everyday piece.

I'd wear these with a complimenting bold lip. Very rich.

Didn't see these coming, did you? Ooh girl these are special. Get ready for compliments.

The depth of the red ruby adds so much to a simple piece of jewelry. Its a saturated color that demands attention.

This Wine Has Great Legs

Last year we had a lot of variety in the jean category. We saw coated denim, quilted, washed, jegging, and more. This year I think we will be seeing a more colorful look. Deep greens, blues, and even reds. Today we're dipping our toes into the wine pool (best idea ever, right?) and looking at some deep merlot denim.

Talk about a steal. These jeans are the perfect shade of burgundy and I love the look with chambray.

American Eagle, Utility Legging Jean, $44
A great military/cargo pocket makes these perfect for a casual Saturday.

Saks off Fifth, Rag and Bone Skinny Jeans, $89
These designer jeans are 51% off. Such a great deal.

I used the backside picture for these jeans because I want to change your mind about Landsend. These jeans rule.

A deep burgundy jean is going to be the go to bottom in your closet. It is great with fall colors and it will transition beautifully to winter sweaters.

Try to Ketchup

Are you a fan of red? It's a tough question to answer. Red means so many things. Lipstick red, maroon, cranberry, I could go on for days. So when I ask, I'm going to be specific and today, it's tomato red. A ketchupy, orangey red that is perfect for spring. Let's look at some tomato red sandals.

Oooooo these puppies are ready for the weekend. Dress them down with ripped jeans or try a leather skirt.

I just love this shade of red. It's punchy and playful.

Nordstrom, Steve Madden Stecy, $79
When you walk in these shoes, walk slowly. Walk with confidence, and prepare for the whistles.

Modcloth, Dreaming on the Dock, $29
And for my girls who need some sassy flats? You're welcome.

Tomato red is a great shade for spring. It's bright, fun, and takes itself a little less seriously, in the best way possible.

Racy Lacy

Happy almost Friday lovebugs! Are we so excited for this weekend? I am. Bring it on Inauguration. I plan to hunker down in my apartment, turn on my former employer, CNN, and enjoy history. But until then, let's look at some lace. Lace is usually connected with ladylike items and delicate things. But when you add the word red to lace all of the sudden it gets hot. Steamy. How can you wear this during the day? Why I'm so glad you asked!

Madewell, Scallop Lace Top, $84
This is perfect for work or play, I love how the scallop detail is not only on the hem but also the sleeves.

Victoria's Secret, Lace Trim Pencil Skirt, $69
This peek-a-boo lace is ok for the office with the right shoes. No come hither heels with this skirt, keep it classy.

Forever 21, Lace Panel 3/4 Length Sleeve Top, $13
This beautiful top is $13. Thirteen dollars. Just yes.

Dorothy Perkins, Red Lace Dress, $55
I think I would lose the ribbon and add a patent skinny belt to make this more mature.

Red lace doesn't have to be Valentine's Day sexy. Wear it during the day with items like these!

Ruffles and Flowers

Hey lovebugs! Happy hump day! We're getting there!

I love a great girly clutch and today we're looking a great red clutches with some extra flare. These bags have fantastic ruffle details that add an extra bit of interest to an otherwise small piece.

I'm obsessed with this bag. It's a great night out bag and the color options to choose from are endless.

These great petals remind me of the cherry blossom petals here in DC. The bow is a great touch.

Franchi, Taylor Red, $90
I really like the square look of this clutch and gold touches are really special.

Endless, La Regale 24997 Clutch, $75
This clutch reminds me of the bottom of a great skirt. This playful layering of fabric is fun and flippy.

Sometimes a sleek patent leather clutch is what an outfit calls for; but sometimes go for something a little more whimsical.

Patriots

It's the last day of football week on the blog. What did you think?  I like using these colors for inspiration because they are so saturated and bright, no pastels, no neons, just hard color.

Today's post is for the Patriots.  A little red, a little blue with some hints of white inbetween.

Converse, Jack Purcell CP Navy, $55
I love my jack purcells. They're perfect for weekends and running around the city.  You can throw them in the washing machine and they will look as good as new.

J Crew, Silk Camisole, $39
You can never have enough of the basics, and this red silk cami you will wear year round for many years to come.

I'll admit, I've spent money on Citizens jeans and they're great, but Gap will always be my go to for any style of denim.

Old Navy, Helmet Tee, $19
I love a soft, comfy, throw back tee like this.

Blue and red doesn't always have to scream Fourth of July.  Break it up to make an outfit pop with red or grounded with navy.
