It's A Wrap, It's a Scarf...

It's fall, which means it is blanket scarf season. Instead of fighting it, let's just dive in. Embrace the cozy, casual, and effortless nature of this accessory. It's a good one.

The loveliest autumn mix with this scarf. You need a basket of apples and some boots.

Nordstrom, BP Autumn Plaid Scarf, $29
This scarf is called 'autumn' it's perfect to pair with a denim jacket.

A great monochrome option for an all black outfit.

Some green and brown hues are great but even better with the pops of red and blue!

Whether you are new to blanket scarves or have more than you'd like to admit, there's no doubting they are a great fall accessory.

Pretty in Plaid

Yesterday we played with some quirky prints. Today let's keep it going but with a print that's a bit more mid-winter: plaid, more specifically tweed plaid. I'm talking heavy material with a classic but versatile print. These pieces look expensive and will keep you cozy.

Banana Republic, Lace Trim Tweed Top, $82
How brilliant is this? Plaid, tweed, wool, and lace.

Old Navy, Plaid Wool Blend Bomber Jacket, $29
This was originally $64. Such a steal right now. I love the athletic rib knit cuffs.

Boden, Heritage Check Coatigan, $99
Oh yes they did: a coat, a cardigan, its a coatigan. Also available in a beautiful navy and red.

Yes you read that correctly...$39. Run. I mean look at that pocket piping detail! Under $40.

Plaid is nothing new for winter, that's why I look for unexpected colors and fabrics. Tweed, wool, pink, you name it, try something eye catching. Feeling extra bold? Pair it with a striped button down with similar colors.

Pretty in Plaid

It may be 60 or even 65 (!) degrees in mid-December but that doesn't we can't wear our favorite winter prints. I love tartan in December. It's a colorful plaid that truly says winter to me. It's a step above your average plaid that makes you smell gingerbread and hear jingle bells.

Originally $80, this classic accessory is totally worth picking up this holiday. I love the red ticks on the watch face for extra color.

Modcloth, Brooklyn Belle Skirt, $69
Oh hello ladylike perfection! I'm pairing this with a winter white sweater and drop earrings.

A great top to wear as is or for layering under a holiday sweater.

This is what we can festive elegance. Understated but hardly an LBD.

Stand out this December in a punchy tartan plaid. Try it with accessories, dresses, sweaters, you name it.

Perfectly Plaid

It's plaid season. Cool, crisp, plaid time. The problem with plaid is that fine line between casual cool and cowboy. You know what I'm talking about. So I'm rounding up my favorite plaid tops this season and styled correctly, no one will mistake you for an overdue Halloween costume.

A great combination of navy and red that is perfectly fitted for a slimmer look.

And speaking of fitted, how about something not as much. Don't love the look? Add a skinny belt to create an hourglass or layer a sweater on top and add a statement necklace under the collar.

A hi-low option that is perfectly feminine. Pair it with relaxed jeans or even knit ponte pants.

I love this combination of fall colors because it includes a bright red without looking too Christmasy.

A great plaid shirt is totally wearable in a feminine way. Add accessories, layer with sweaters, or embrace the relaxed fit. It's easily dressed up or down for work or play.

Plaiding Ahead

It's almost November, which means it's almost full on winter, which means it's time to think plaid. Yep, I'm not holding back, I'm thinking ahead and getting my picks in now for plaid cropped pants. Not your wide leg or bootcut black and white plaid, and not your standard windowpane. I'm talking colorful, fitted, plaid.

I'm going to need these pants. Styled perfectly with a casual chambray as seen above, or add a navy silk blouse for your company holiday party.

I don't love the shoe pairing but this could very easily be swapped out with suede stilettos (PS going to need these shoes).

Anthropologie, Plaid Ponte Leggings, $89
Ok, these are technically leggings, but they have back pockets so they count. Plus leggings at holiday eating time? Don't hate that.

Wool with a touch of spandex? Yep and yep.

Are you brave enough for a plaid pant this winter? I can promise you the compliments will be abundant.

The December Print

You now what goes hand and hand with December? Tartan. One look at the pattern, the colors, the texture, and you are reminded of fireplaces, snowmen, and hot cocoa. You can style it preppy, classic, or rocker. It's the do it all for December.

Not your standard mini skirt. Check out how the pattern falls with the asymmetrical lines.

Anthropologie, Tartan Tights, $24
This is a perfect holiday tight with a red mini dress and heels.

Not all tartan is sweet, try this relaxed moto jacket.

Modcloth, Footwork and Play Flat, $98
Safe to say these are my new favorite holiday shoes.

Tartan is surprisingly versatile as one of the bolder prints out there. Pair it with black, but think outside of the box this time of year and maybe pair it with black sequins!

Buffalo Solider

As it's getting colder, I tend to lean towards warmer fabrics and patterns. The pattern option may seem odd but think about it. Plaids, fair isle, you get the idea. So today let's look at some great buffalo plaid options that are great stock up pieces for the colder weather.

Bloomingdale's, Voyager Buffalo Check, $98
How cozy does this look? I could wear this all winter. Dress it up with baubles and dress it down with a tee. I LOVE it.

Is this shirt a little spendy? Yes.  But you're paying for quality. The Massachusetts-based Penfield brand is a great investment. You'll have this shirt for a very long time.

Banana Republic, Buffalo Plaid Mini, $79
This is a great option to wear with booties, as the model shows. Make sure to buy the correct size. No one likes a stretched out plaid mini. Don't look at the number ladies, get the one that fits.

Free People, We The Free Vintage Printed Thermal, $58
I'm not sure why the model is staring at us like that but her thermal is sure to be warm and comfy this winter.

A simple buffalo plaid is a solid option for the colder weather, glam it up with pearls or keep it woodsy with some boots and jeans.

Summer Plaid

Hey lovebugs!
Happy almost Friday to you!  Any plans for the weekend? I am traveling to Orlando to help with my parents' annual meeting.  Tough life I know.

Today I wanted to share a pattern that I love because it's traditionally a winter trend.  Plaid.  Here are some of my picks this pattern summer-worthy.

I really like the laid back coolness of this shirt.  Perfect for summer.

Forever 21, Picnic Plaid Dress, $20
I love the modified sweetheart neckline on this little frock.  I would belt it to break up the pattern.

Preppy and fabulous for work or play.

How perfect would these be with shorts, bf jeans, or a white sun dress?

Vintage, flattering and fun! This one piece is perfect for any shape or size.

When picking out plaids for warmer weather find lightweight materials like linen or look for bright colors like oranges and yellows.  This will help lighten up what is usually a cold weather pattern.
