Knot Mad

One of my favorite things about women's fashion is that it's always improving on itself. Flares become culottes, platforms become stacked heels, you get the idea. And just when you get bored with one style, a new one pops up. I love a pencil skirt but, let's be honest, it can get tired. So when I found the knot skirt, I knew I found my new love.

Bloomingdale's, Lush Tie Front Mini Skirt, $32
See what I mean? So adorable.

Nordstrom Rack, Socialite Side Knot Bodycon Skirt, $22
A going out skirt with flare. Dang girl.

Lord & Taylor, Kensie Love Poetry Knot Skirt, $29
As if it could get more interesting, a high low situation for the win!

Something super soft and casual. Love this side knot.

These skirts have personality without being loud. Great color and pattern options to make you smile!

Slitting Hairs

Let's spice up the workwear routine. Skirts can get dull; so mix up the expected and try something with a front slit. It's such a small change that creates a much different look that your norm.

The varied angles and stripes make for maximum camouflage. I love this skit.

Forever 21, Contemporary Front Slit Skirt, $19
This skirt is very modern. The front patch pockets are understated but casual. It also comes in a beautiful burnt yellow.

Loft, Slit Pencil Skirt, $59
And speaking of yellow. Check out this lemon!!

Last Call Neiman Marcus, Minkpink Striped Spilt Front Skirt, $45
I thought we would start and end with stripes, and this one is fantastic. Check out that asymmetrical slit.

The front slit for a skirt is an easy trend to try. Start with a standard black pencil and then brand out to some of these striped and brighter options above! Show some leg, just don't forget to shave above the knee now that's spring. You're welcome.

How Original

Florals for spring, how original. But hang on, florals have changed. They've been upgraded. Florals are not just Easter Sunday or pretty cupcake prints anymore, oh no. They're oversized, unexpected colors, and nothing you'd expect. Today we're taking on florals in work-ready pencil skirts.

See what I told you? Didn't see this one coming. So crisp and fresh for spring.

A little That 70s Show but pair it with a silk bow blouse and you're ready for 9-5.

This skirt is going to hug your hips and slim your waist.

Can't beat the price! This is something out of an adult coloring book and I love it.

Don't pass on floral this spring. I promise you can find something that is going to work with tops that are already in your closet. Play with stripes or dots on top to really add a punch.

Split Down the Middle

What is it about the slightest details that transforms the entire look of a skirt? Texture, shape, movement, or as we will see today, the slit. What we think of when we think of a pencil skirt is a back slit. Turn it around and you have a completely different look. Something powerful, corporate, and sexy. I give you the front slit skirt.

Here we have a stunning midi that has a slim cut and hugs in all of the right places.

Let's talk beige. This effortless and cool shade is oozing confidence.

Jones New York, Black Pencil Skirt with Front Slit, $64 $39
Simple, elegant, and work ready. This skirt is understated and yet show stopping.

Asymmetrical front slit. This skirt has structure and movement at the same time.

The front slit is such a simple switch but totally changes the silhouette of the outfit.

Pencil Pusher

You know what item doesn't get enough credit? The pencil skirt. It's a hard working piece in your closet that can pull a look together in an instant. Think about it: the button down shirt, the cardigan, the t shirt! Slap on the pencil skirt and instant chic. Today we're looking at the patterned pencil. Let's see what a print adds to this staple.

These aren't polka dots ladies, these are stars. Ha! A gorgeous purple with black stars.

This color works for fall because its a mustard yellow rather than a buttery yellow. I love it with this soft t shirt.

Talbots, Textured Floral Skirt, $31
Originally $110 this skirt is a steal and it packs a punch.

Piperlime, Three Dots Fitted Skirt, $75
This is your comfort pencil. No zippers or clasps, just cotton with a hint of spandex.

Let's give the pencil skirt some credit, it does a lot for my closet, what about yours? Oh and did I mention all of these picks are $75 and under? Not too shabby.

Get My Good Side

Skirts can get dull. No matter how you cut them, texture them, sometimes they're a bit of a yawn. Today we're looking at a new take on the skirt build, side panels.

You want New Year's Eve? Pair this skirt with a flowy black blouse.Va-voom.

Dorothy Perkins, Black and gold foil panel skirt, $29
I wish the waistband was a bit thicker but for the price, I'll buy a thick patent belt and add that.

Forever 21, Curved Panel Skirt, $15
I will preface this by saying DEPENDING ON WHERE YOU WORK, this skirt could be office appropriate if paired with a more demure top.

Topshop, Grid Panel Tube Skirt, $50
If you buy this, and wear it, you must count the number or whistles and stares you get and email me. Holy cow, get it girl.

Paneled skirts are a very easy way to add curves to a pencil skirt, which by name, indicates a stick.

Anything But Pencil Pusher

Pencil skirts have always been and will always be a staple in every woman's wardrobe. They come in black, navy, pink, houndstooth, but let's try something new, something unexpected. A patterned pencil.

This skirt is absolutely gorgeous. The geometric print mixed with bursts of color, and hello, the price.

A sweet mushroom print skirt that is just adorable for an office setting with a white tie silk blouse.

A fabulous almost watercolor canvas design for a skirt. You go Vera.

Are you kidding me? I'm beyond smitten with this skirt. You know who would wear this? Wait for it...Kate freaking Middleton. Go, go now and buy it.

I could wear a pencil skirt 9-5 everyday for the rest of eternity but I'm just loving the opportunity to mix in some sass. Embrace the pattern!

Pattern Pencils

I love to wear a pencil skirt to work because it comes in so many colors and you can match with essentially anything. Right now, patterned pencil skirts are very popular and just like patterned shorts and crop pants, this is going to be huge.

Ann Taylor, Caliente Muses Print, $88
Does this skirt scream spring or what? I would love to add an unexpected color on top like a silk khaki colored shirt or maybe a nice jewel tone.

Target, Gray print skirt, $18
Who doesn't need a ready to wear to work pencil skirt for UNDER $20?

The mix of pink and orange petals is just beautiful in this micro-print.

Banana Republic, animal print pencil skirt, $69
I love the big print on this skirt, it's graphic and fun and great to spice up your 9 to 5.

Are you wearing brights, patterns or both this spring? How do you style your pencil skirt?

Not Straight Edge

Lovebugs! Happy Monday. I hope you're enjoying a day off from school, work, or life in general.

Today, as it is the first day of the week, some of us are planning our outfits for the week. My go to is a pencil skirt because it's standard, chic and works with everything. But today we're looking at some not so run of the mill pencil skirts. Pattern, color, sass.

J Crew, No. 2 pencil skirt, $89
Hello glamour. This skirt fits so well, and the coloring of the leopard is very simple and elegant.

White House Black Market, Colorblock pencil skirt, $88
Doesn't this skirt look like a piece of art? I love the front vertical panel, very elongating.

One, the price. Two, the color. Three the structure.

Oh come on, you know I had to put in a dotted skirt.

What's your go to work staple? If it's the pencil skirt, would you abandon the black for something a little sassier?

Christmas Lists!

My good friend offered to help me out with this post a little bit.  On her Christmas list is a floral top and a navy blue pencil skirt for work.  Two great pieces that are awesomely versatile and easy to pair up.

Do you have items on your list that you want some great options for? Email, tweet or comment me!

Also- don't forget lovebugs! Send in your recipes for Friday Foodday!!!

Hope you all enjoy the coupon code from Tucker Blair!

Let's start with the floral top:

Macy's, peasant top, $59
Gorgeous colors here and a great neckline

I love this because its structured and can be worn alone or with a sweater

Nordstrom, Watercolor Garden, $35
OK, I love purple, you got me.  But look at these colors!

And now, the skirt:

Calvin Klein, Navy Stretch Perfect Pencil, $60
Sleek and sophisticated and it doesn't sit too high on the hip

This is the back view, so the zipper is NOT in the front.  If you think you can get away with a front exposed zipper at work, think again.  Trashy ladies.  If you do want to do it in the back do it professionally and with a nice top.

Macy's, Anne Klein Skirt, $50
I love that the skirt is just a touch above the knee, something adorable about that.

Talbots, Seasonless Wool Skirt, $99
Just like it says: seasonless, all year round! Plus the flare out on the knee? So sassy.
