Not Not Loving the Knot

As the weather gets warmer, its important to realize the variety of casual weekend shirts that are available. These tops will keep you cool and stylish without blowing your budget. One style I really like it the tie front waist top. It's breezy and can be dressed up or down.

J Crew Factory, Striped Tie Waist Pocket Tee, $34
How adorable is this tee? Pair it with cotton shorts or an eyelet skirt.

Bloomingdale's, AQUA Tie Front Tee, $24
A crisp and clean white tee that is as soft as can be.

I love this top with patterned shorts. It's a staple without being boring.

And a button down version. Simple and easy to accessorize.

Sure it's easy to grab a tank top on those hot days, but know you've got options. Stylish ones.

Spring into Action

Happy Monday lovebugs,
I hope you had a great weekend. The weather in DC is really feeling spring-like and I think it might stick. We're talking 70s and sunshine, perfect for skirts and denim jackets. So let's look at some April and May friendly skirts that make it easy to put away your sweaters and embrace the sun!

This skirt screams spring. I love it because you can dress it up for work with a blazer or dress it down with a tee.

Joe Fresh, Tulip Hem Skirt, $34
I really love this drawstring waist mixed with a dressier fabric and hem.

Lavender with scallops. What else does a girl need? Oh a sale price. Done.

Madewell, Ruffle Wrap Midi Skirt, $98
Floral and feminine.

Before we get to blistering temps this summer, let's enjoy this beautiful weather and some springy skirts that show off our legs!

Knot for Nothing

I often talk about details. Polka dots, hemlines, exposed zippers. Such small attention to detail points that can change the look of a piece. Today let's talk about knots.

Nordstrom, Halogen Knot Front Tee, $23
I love this tee. It's so cute and casual. It also comes in five other colors!

Simple but better than your average tee!

I'm scooping this up for fall asap. Sweatshirts are coming back and this one is amazing.

Joe Fresh, Knot Tee in Light Blush, $19
Great fit on this tee. It hugs but you can still enjoy Taco Tuesday.

Spicing up your tee is easy with accessories, but I like the idea of a tee that does the work for you! Try a knot for some simple spunk in your casual wear.

Denim: A Do

Happy Monday lovebugs,
If you are an east coaster you noticed a distinct fall breeze this weekend. It took me a bit by surprise and I was searching for my jean jacket to layer on top of my outfit. This search was not a good one, not because my closet is a mess (it is) it's because I don't have a jean jacket. I know. So today, let's go shopping.

We've got to start with the classic. Levi's. You can't go wrong with this beauty.

Nordstrom, Halogen Denim Jacket, $29
Looking for a faded option? This one is on major sale.

Forever 21, Quilted Denim Boxy Jacket, $39
How about something totally different. Denim and quilted, so unexpected.

A very chic dark wash that you can wear with a jumpsuit on the weekends or a corduroy skirt.

I really love denim jackets for fall. They are easy, you can throw them in the wash, and they are great for layering. Have fun with a thin fringed scarf or grab some pins and add a quirky twist to your jacket.

Three Little Words

Hey there lovebugs,
Today we're getting really specific. I'm giving you an item that is going to be your go to this summer option for three reasons: its a classic shape, it's a print, and it's under $50. Today we're looking at printed shift dresses under $50.

I'm starting with my favorite. I love the color contrast and the size of this allover print.

Nordstrom, Carlson Woven Shift Dress, $34
Gotta love a simple stripe. Add a belt if you want to.

Just buy this dress. Pockets, short sleeves, florals, come on.

OK, maybe I'm ending with my favorite. I love this heart print with the detail in the long sleeves.

A simple post that packs a punch but favors the wallet. I hope these options help your summer dress wardrobe.

Over, Under, and through the Loop

Happy Monday lovebugs,
You all know I'm a sucker for bows so today I thought I would indulge a bit and look at some bows on shoes. I'm not talking a tiny ballet flat bow, I mean a statement bow. Let's make 'em stare.

Ok, well, these are already in my cart. I mean...come.on.

Joe Fresh, Flats in Tan, $59
These will be your go to work shoes for summer. I love the stark contrast with the tan and the black in the edged piping.

These look like bridesmaid shoes but stay with me. Picture these with seersucker crops, picture these with a pink sundress, picture these with..wait for it...bf jeans. Mind blown.

Topshop, Villa Bow Flats, $30
I'd expect nothing less from Topshop: bright, feminine, and under budget.

How are we feeling about these bow shoes? I'll take each one of them please!

Drop it Like it's Shoulder

Let's stick with the comfortable style trend we started yesterday and look at some soft tees. More specifically, let's look at a trend that is casual and relaxed: the drop shoulder. Such a simple detail that changes the entire look of the top.

This shirt may look slubby at first glance, but try it on. It's swingy and turn around for a breezy surprise. A discreet back slit.

JCrew Factory, Colorblock Drop Shoulder Tee, $24
Peachy, huh? I like the combination of navy with this not in-your-face orange.

Something simple that is effortless as is or dress it up with a great statement necklace.

A slouchy tee with a nice update. As you can see, this drop shoulder option pairs perfectly with a pencil skirt and heels.

The drop shoulder trend is a nice departure form the form fitting scuba trends or crop tops. It reminds me of the cool girl at the party that walks in and looks like she 'just threw this on' and looks incredible.

Velvet Underground

Ok lovebugs, it's been a long week and it's time for some comfy class. I'm talking about velvet. I love velvet in December because it's dressy or casual. This fabric is perfect for winter and especially the holiday season. Let's look at some great velvet pant options.

I love Loft pants. You can throw them in the wash, you can wear them to work, you can wear them for play. They work for everything and they hold up for years.

JCPenny, Joe Fresh Velvet Pant, $39 $28
A great jogger option, this pant features a drawstring and a fitted ankle.

Ann Taylor, Curvy Velvet Slim Pants, $98 $59
The price is high, but these will be your go to pant in the winter. This chianti hue goes with green, navy, tan, you name it.

How about a navy option? I love the ankle crop because you can show off some sassy heels.

Try out some velvet this winter. It isn't as loud as plaid but it's perfect for the season.
