Flutter Nutter

I'm really into a dress with personality. Skip a solid sheath dress and give me something with flair. That's why I love a great flutter sleeve dress. This simple detail packs a punch that really dresses up the look.

Stunning allover print with a show stopping neckline.

Cobalt that makes a statement. Perfect for a wedding.

This dress is a great canvas to play with. Add a metallic belt or statement necklace to have some fun with color.

New York & Company, Flutter Sleeve Hi-Lo Dress, $44
Another great color and perfect for twirling, which is a major dress requirement for me.

Solid or print, pastel or monochrome, a flutter sleeve detail really makes a dress special.

Faux Real

Hello from the inside lovebugs,
I must have Netflixed 1,000 times. Here in DC we have two feet of snow and while it's awesome, it's also cold. So today I thought we would warm things up with some faux fur/shearling outerwear that puts my utility puffer coat to shame.

The look of true shearling but without the price. I really love the soft leather and asymmetrical zipper.

Amazon, Jessica Simpson Wool Anorak, $220 $56
Originally $220, this jacket is a steal! Heavy wool but you can define a great waistline with the drawstrings.

Look at this slimming quilting seam along the torso. A beautiful winter white.

Modcloth, Toasty Transit Coat, $89
Who doesn't love a great toggle coat? This one has lovely details with patch pockets and a full zipper.

So stay warm and stylish this week with whatever you have. This snow isn't melting any time soon so why not stand out with your outerwear?

Don't Turn Around

It may be the end of summer, but that still means we have to dress for it. Yes back to school sales, fall fashion week, and more are ahead of us; but we still need to get dressed for now. So today I give you a great option for hot weather. The slit back top. It's so breezy and keeps you cool on these hot end of summer nights.

I love these colors and the sweet back opening is low enough that you can still wear a normal bra.

Lord and Taylor, Jessica Simpson Open Back Tank, $13
Super soft chambray is ready for any bottom in your closet. Chino shorts, printed skirts, jeans, you name it.

Banana Republic, Striped Open Back Pullover, $69
How perfect is this for fall? A heavier knit with a peek a boo slit.

End of summer picnics? This top.

A great detail isn't easy to pull off, but these slit back top options are effortless and simple.

Off to the Races

It's pool season. Summertime sweat, cool cocktail, sunscreen weather. So I thought we would brighten up your Monday with some swimwear. Athletic chic has been a big trend this year and it easily applies to swim. Today we're looking at racerback swimsuits. Sporty and perfect for summer.

I love this print but I also love all the colors in the print. You can mix and match solid bottoms with any of the colors in this suit.

Tommy Hilfiger, Racerback Malliot, $79
The classic prep of Tommy does not disappoint with this sporty suit.

Gotta love the price point and all of the color options from Old Navy.

Best for last, ladies. A blousy one piece that covers everything you want in a stunning print.

The racerback trend works for anyone, even us non-sporty folks. I love it for the pool, on an exotic vacation, and anything in-between.

Mule-ing it Over

Mules are weird. Both the animal and the trend. I'm not sure why it's a thing but it's one of the more comfortable trends we're seeing right now so I'm on board. Mule sandals are particularly great because they're usually very walkable with some nice support versus a strappy option.

Anthropologie, Lien.Do Sol Mules, $99
Woven rafia, does it get more summer than this? They're just so pretty.

The detail of the perforation is so quiet that it add just the right amount of style to these otherwise organic and simple heels.

Gotta love J Simp for adding  pop of pink to this nude sandal. This is white jean ready.

Bare Necessities, Seychelles Leather Mule Sandals, $78
I'd save these shoes for a cool summer night with a breezy maxi dress. The leather is going to give you some sweaty feet but with this much style, who cares?

The mule trend is sticking around for a while and in this variation of a summer sandal, that is just fine by me.

Speak Up

Let's get graphic. Not Nat Geo graphic, I'm talking graphic tees. It's not quite tshirt weather (far from it) but today, let's look at some long sleeve text tees that are casual.

Simple and yet so cool. I'd pair it with a denim jacket or even a black blazer.

A cheeky mix of floral and gold with a feminine scoop neck and baseball style sleeves.

Bloomingdale's, Junk Food Tee Party for No Reason, $40
I firmly agree with the sentiment of this shirt and I love the rounded hem that compliments the scoop neck.

Aside from the washed blue hue, I love the font of the text on this tee. It's big and bold.

A great text/graphic tee is such fun way to add some quirk your outfit. Leave the accessories at home because the shirt is going to do the talking.

Drop it Like its a Dress

A great trend this year is bringing back the colorful prints and shapes from the 60s. One of those iconic shapes is the drop waist dress. It's funky, casual, and in my opinion, it's confident. Lets look at some fall/winter options you can add a denim jacket to or some tights.

I'd hold off for a great promo code from JCrew because they always seem to have them for sale items. If you can't wait, I totally understand and support you.

I absolutely love the way this dress fits. Like a glove. Go LBD or add a statement earring.

A little easier on the wallet and a great long sleeve option for fall.

Boden, Drop Waist Tunic Dress, $88
Oh you want a layering option? Boden has got you covered.

The drop waist is a really fun shape to try with tights and flats or an oxford and bootie. I love this look.

Lace Lately

It's almost Memorial Day which means if you abide by the white pants rules of summer, it's almost time to break out the whites, the lace, the eyelets. Today I thought we would get the shopping started with white lace. Feminine, airy, and the definition of summer.

Piperlime, Sabine Lace Top, $49
I started with my favorite. I love this short sleeve, lacy hem blouse. I just think it is stunning.

I like this top because the peplum hits at a very natural spot. It creates an hourglass on the perfect spot on the torso.

This will be your go to white shell this summer. It's well made, great shape and can be worn alone or layered with just about anything.

Lord and Taylor, Jessica Simpson Lace Top, $44
I see you J Simp. Stepping up your game and I love it.

White lace doesn't need to be butterflies and purity. Pair these tops with a fringy or neon necklace to spice things up! Or keep it simple with a nice charm necklace.

Hey Girl Hey

I'm feeling French. Bad news: I know one word of French. Good news: we're going shopping. Bonjour!

I really like the striped shoulder detail. I don't think the model does though, she looks like she's having a tough day.

Anthropologie, Love Note Cuff, $38
Oh how lovely. A perfect addition to an arm party.

An adorable skater dress with mesh shoulders that add just enough sass.

This would be adorable with pearls and a skirt or with bf jeans and a ponytail.

So bonjour y'all! I hope you enjoy this mini-vacation.

Quite Quilted

It's my favorite time of year. Fall. It's tights, light coats, and corduroys weather. One of my go to coats this time of year is the quilted jacket. You don't have to be super preppy to pull this off, it comes in a variety of styles. Of course the ultimate is this one. The Burberry Hertiage Jacket. I'm not sure if you have $600 lying around, but I don't so here are some other great options.

Dorothy Perkins, Petite Navy Quilted Jacket, $69
A nice zipper and a faux-sheep skin collar make this jacket stand out from the crowd.

Jessica Simpson, Double breasted quilted puffer, $74
How about this emerald green? Also comes in burgundy.

Old Navy, Quilted Barn Jacket, $59
I like the diamond pattern quilt on this coat. Also available in white and navy.

Lands End, Quilted insulator jacket, $89
I saved my favorite for last. This beautiful orange lightweight jacket is also water resistant and has PolarThin technology.

Quilted doesn't have to mean monograms and pearls, find a color and a style that best represents you!

You Don't D'Orsay?

The D'Orsay flat has been all the rage lately, and why not? They're chic, comfortable and affordable. But what's in a name? D’Orsay shoes, in which the side or "vamp" of the shoe is cut very close to the sole, were named after Count Alfred d’Orsay; a 19th Century "dandy", artist and friend of Lord Byron. The shoes were worn by men at the time, and the cut-out sides were introduced to accommodate wider feet. [source

I'm going to skip the D'Orsay flat discussion, because, let's be honest, it's been done. Let's look at where we originally saw the style: the D'Orsay pump.

Forever 21, City Chic D'Orsay Pumps, $36
Well hello vamp! That is one gorgeous, affordable shoe.

Urban Outfitters, Cooperative D'Orsay Canvas Heel, $49
How hippy-adorbs are these? Paired with a cord mini and some tights. These also come in black, red, and gray.

Black and blue are a hot combo this fall and winter. These beauties will look great with some black skinny jeans.

A little vintage looking, no? A little Gatsby. You get it J. Simp.

The D'Orsay style is more than 200 years old and I for one love a little history with my fashion. Try a D'Orsay pump or flat this season!
