Head Case

Happy Monday lovebugs,
I hope you had a good weekend. The man and I went with some friends to the Gold Cup and had a grand time.  The people watching was amazing and the hats were even better. And that's the inspiration for today's post: statement headbands. They make me smile and you are going to get a ton of compliments.

How lovely and feminine is this metal headband. It also comes in half a dozen colors.

Who doesn't love supporting small business? Its like not loving puppies. This lady is crushing some adorable felt floral headbands.

Apologies for the poor picture, but I really love this headband. I think it would add some sparkle to a simple sundress.

Anthropologie, Nymphaea Headband, $28
White dress, this headband, and some bright sandals.

A great hair accessory is such a clutch thing to add to your closet. You pull it out and you instantly feel pretty and unique. Not that you aren't that all of the time. You totally are, but sometimes you need a little something extra. A statement.

Headcase

Ok almost Friday, let's do this. If you're like me, at least one day a week is ponytail day. Your hair is a touch dirty, you're out of dry shampoo, you didn't blow dry it, it's ponytail day. Not all of us are fortunate to enjoy this luxury because our hair is too short for a ponytail. Enter the jeweled headband. A little bling that just distracting enough to pass off as gorgeous.

Anthropologie, Golden Pyramids Headband, $32
This hand beaded headband is beautiful not just for the colors but also for the shape. It's so different!

Forever 21, Faux Gemstone Headband, $7
A little princess but paired with the right outfit (read moto jacket) it's rocker chic.

Difference between a headband and a head wrap? A head wrap doesn't give you that behind the ears headache.

What a great color combination. Blues, silvers, perfect for winter.

Whether you enjoy a ponytail day or a headband day, style it right.

Don't Be A Pain

You know what I hate? Headbands that give you headaches. You're just trying to mix in some variety in your hairstyles/you didn't wash your hair, but really, what's the deal with the behind the ear headache? No more. Today let's look at some wraparound headbands. But today we're getting specific: beaded and under $25.

I love the shapes and colors in this piece. The red and turquoise pop against the balancing brown.

Forever 21, Eclectic Beaded Headband, $9
This headband is in the single digits. Look at the friendship bracelet-inspired pattern. I love it.

This is a very feminine headband. Sequins, beads, and a ribbon detail make this a beautiful accessory for work or play.

How about this thicker geometric option? I love the colors and the width of this headband.

Ever since I donated my hair back in December, I've been a headband fiend since it's not quite long enough for a ponytail. The wraparound headband is a great headache-free option!

Headband Hold the Headache

Hey there lovebugs! I'm currently sitting on my couch under a blanket with the puppy in my lap after a successful day of getting caught in the rain at the dog park. How was your weekend?

As I've mentioned before, headbands are among my favorite in the accessory world, but here's the thing, I have a huge head. So huge. Often I get a a nasty headache by hour three of wearing my headband. The solution? The elastic headband. And I'm not talking about a gym ready elastic headband. Take a look at these sparklers.

Nordstrom, BP Beaded Headband, $18
Look at this beauty, the detail of the beading gives this a feathery look.

BCBG MaxAzria, Rhinestone Headband, $38
The gunmetal finish on this headband gives the rhinestones a tougher edge.

Anthropologie, Nella headband, $32
This stunner comes in a few colors but this teal is my favorite. Anthropologie always does the best romantic accessories.

Forever 21, Metallic Braided Headband, $1.80
Looking for something for the weekend? A no nonsense throw on and go with your bf jeans? Fork over two bucks and this is yours!

While I do have quite a collection of regular headbands, I adore elastic headbands for my mammoth head.

Bejeweled Headband

Hey lovebugs,

For Christmas this year I got a couple headbands that were really special; they had embellishments with jewels and sequin beads. I really love headbands for everyday, but these shiny ones dress up the everyday.

This is so delicate and lovely for everyday.

Anthropologie, Swirled Suns Headband, $32
These headbands are the best if you get headaches. They stay put all day long.

A little extra fabulous to your work wear am I right?

Etsy, Edwardian headband, $27
Simple, vintage, classy.

Are you as big of a headband lover as I am? I just think they are the easiest way to look put together in the morning.

Hair Accessories!

Hey lovebugs,
You know what I love when my hair isn't cooperating?  Headbands, barrets, and ribbons.  Hair accessories are such a great way to dress up your hair when you're feeling you need a little extra boost.

Red Autumn Creations, Retro Flower Turquoise , $5
I just love this with boyfriend jeans on the weekend.  What a great way to dress up a casual outfit.

This is perfect for a summer sun dress, it would catch the light perfectly.

Anthropologie, Clara Bobbies, $15
Are you obsessed with these?  Because I am.

TopShop, mini flower headband, $12
I love this one because its an all the way around headband which means no headaches.

If you ever need to kill time, just type headband into Etsy.  Not only will you lose hours in your day, you'll thank me later for all of the amazing hair accessories you find!  I just love playing with headbands and bling in my hair, its so easy, affordable and fun.

Humid Hair

As we discussed yesterday, the weather in DC lately is bordering on a regular afternoon search for apartments in North Dakota, Oregon, and Montana on Craigslist. It is humid and disgusting outside. But we're dealing with it, because that's what Washingtonians do best, just deal. Yesterday we talked about appropriate office wear in the DC desert and today we're going to look at some hair options.

Humidity tends to destroy any attempt at a straight-iron, hair dryer, or curling iron; so I like to do the best I can and accessorize. If you can't beat the heat then at least try to distract people from looking at your frizzy mess with some great hair extras.

While some of you may have longer hair, the ponytail is a go-to look but why not dress it up a little bit for the office and do some volume like Jessica:

Now for the shorter-haired ladies of DC (myself included) hair accessories will become your best friend. My personal favorite is the headband, and this summer it's all about the floral. Here are some great additions to any outfit that will keep your hair in place and looking fabulous:

Natasha Accessories Satin-Flower Headband, Dillard's $8.40

Mixed Flower Headband, The Limited, $16.50

Penelope Zipper Flower Headband, Etsy, $12

Those are some of my affordable headband suggestions but don't forget about jeweled bobby pins like this vintage looking one:

Luxe- Blush Pink Jewel Bobby Pin, Etsy, $6

Or a great addition to an updo like a bun for work:

Hairpins, pearls and crystal jeweled buttons, Etsy, $35
