Growin Up Gingham

So Fourth of July has come and gone, which means we are in the thick of summer. You know what print just slaps you across the face with summer? Gingham. It's eye catching. It makes for a sweet all over dress print or a preppy piece to mix and match.

A very grown up gingham. Great for a lunch meeting or a dressy brunch with the in laws.

Simple pedal pushers that are easy to dress up or down.

JCrew Factory, Gingham Skirt, $19
Can't beat the price! Love the elastic waist and wait for it...pockets!

Weekend wear acquired.

Sure I love a good polka dot, and a stripe is always nice, but why not gingham for summer?

Gingham Style

Happy hump day lovebugs,
We are in the dog days of summer and you know what I associate with summer? Gingham. Warm (ok sweltering) weather, outdoor parties, it's just gingham weather. A preppy print that today we're looking at in a skirt. Quite feminine and perfect for hot weather.

Think simple with this skirt. A white tank. That's it. Simple. Crisp.

This skirt is summer. It is flowy, girly, and beautiful.

This beauty is 40% off right now. I love the length.

One word ladies, pockets.

Don't these skirts scream summer to you? I love them even into fall with a floral cardigan to mix prints with style.

Picnic Perfect

Summer means many things: BBQ, late nights, sundresses and sandals. Another thing that also reminds me of summer is gingham. Gingham is the quintessential summer pattern, but we also think of gingham as a button down shirt. Let's expand what you know about gingham with picks that are anything but ordinary.

I really love this mint dress. It's an unexpected light color and you can swap out the belt with your own neon pop of color.

Shopbop, Joa Gingham Skirt, $66
How sweet is this mini? It's just screaming for an espadrille and a pastel purse.

A nice hook and eye closure makes these crops better than your average. They have a defined waistband with a great pattern.

Anthropologie, Gingham Pumps, $99
Picnic perfect heels. Also comes in red.

Gingham is not always your standard button down. Enjoy it on dresses, skirts, shoes, you name it! It screams summer.

Resort Season- So not cool.

Happy Monday lovebugs.  If you're at work today, I'm very sorry and I hope this post will keep you company for a bit.  If you're not, enjoy the extra sleep and take advantage of the whole day!

Today's post stems from one of my pet peeves.  Resort season.  It's when some of my fave stores (I'm looking at you J Crew) whip out bathing suits, sun dresses and flip flops during January and February because that's when people go on vacations and cruises.  Now I don't know about you but I'm currently sitting in Washington, DC with no upcoming vacay in sight on my calendar.  So the thought of bikinis, sun, and hotel are just mean to me! Can I get an amen?

Where am I going with this?  Today I will be featuring a pattern that is usually summer-chic but I'm digging it right now!  So we may not be going on vacation soon but let's enjoy this fun and whimsical pattern: Gingham.

People.  This shirt is $17.  Hello.  Go buy it.  Layer it under a wool gray sweater or try it with skinny jeans untucked!

Asos, Check full skirt, $51
Love this! It's flouncy and the waistband is adorable.  Also loving how the model paired this fem skirt with oxfords.

Asos, Vero Moda short, $48
vertical flat pocket, high waisted, gorgeous color, this is a great piece to have in your wardrobe.

J Crew Factory, Gingham perfect shirt, $54
Look at the darting at the sides of the bust line, this is not your BF's shirt.  It's going be a great fit.

So vacations or not, here is a nice, warm pattern that will remind you Spring isn't too far away.  Try mixing this print into your winter rotation.  Just because you're not getting fabulously tan doesn't mean you can't work it.
