Needlepoint

Remember when embroidered shorts would bring up a slew of critter cotton shorts from JCrew? Those were the days. I'd like to think we've matured a little bit from those (don't get me wrong though, I still rock mine). But for a casual alfresco dinner, let's try something a little more mature.

Can't beat this price. I also like the pin tuck pleats at the waist.

Anthropologie, Pathway Embroidered Shorts, $39
Embroidery from Anthro for under $40. Don't wait on these shorts.

Topshop, Dotty Shorts, $65
Hands down my favorite of this bunch. I love the mix of colors and patterns.

Now these are something special. A lovely landscape of colorful flowers with a matching belt.

Spice up your shorts with something beautiful embroidery. These soft shorts will go great with a simple tee or dress it up with a cutaway back blouse.

All In the Details

Who else is bracing for snow right now? Cool. I thought we would think warm thoughts on this impending arctic storm, and look at some spring embroidered bags. They are chock full of detail and a perfect distraction to these frigid temps.

This bucket bag is a steal. I love the colors!

This bag needs to be on vacation. It needs sunshine and happy hours.

Asos, Park Lane Embroidered Bag, $110 $61
Looking for something for evening? This metallic embroidery has a vintage look and feel.

Forever 21, Raj LA Embroidered Bag, $58
A little weekender bag that won't be mistaken as another black tote bag.

So bundle up, stock up on milk, and batteries, and shop these bright and cheery bags!

Sew Me a Dream

I'm feeling colorful. Bright, cheery, and ready to leave the neutrals behind. A colorful accessory can really change your outfit and add some punch to a casual or dressy ensemble. Let's look at some beautiful and colorful embroidered bags that are ready for vacation.

A touch of metallic and a touch of neon make this the perfect day to nighttime transition clutch.

100% raffia, this clutch is ready for summer. So simple and feminine. Also comes in yellow or pink.

Mango, Ethnic Bead Bag, $89
Stunner. This little wristlet is gorgeous. I love the pop of pink with the zipper tassel.

Forever 21, Raga Embroidered Tote, $49
Can we just stare for a moment? A carryall option that is ready for the weekend.

Embroidery will always be one of my favorite ways to add detail to any piece. It's intricate and classic no matter what color or pattern.

Not Your Average Needlepoint

As you know, I'm all about the details here on TCB and today will be no different. Embroidery is a difficult and intricate detail that adds quiet beauty to a piece. It's not a bold color block, its not an oversized graphic or pattern, it's quiet and charming. Let's look at some tops that use this detail beautifully.

A great layering piece in a year round blush.

This sweet top has a sassy mesh back perfect for warmer days or throw on a navy blazer and wear it to work.

A chic gauzy top that is a delicate treasure. Such simple details making a huge impact.

Strong black and white options are huge for spring and summer, this top offers a nice feminine touch to a sometimes harsh color combination. Check out the sweetheart neckline.

Embroidery is sometimes a more expensive detailed piece to add to your wardrobe, but try to think of the piece's versatility in your closet. Wear it alone, wear it over a dress and belt it, or mix it in with you standard suit.

Sew Much Detail

Happy almost Friday guys!

Details really make me excited about clothing, usually because it means quality. That extra time was taken to make a piece extra special. Today, that detail is embroidery. Very simple, but very noticeable.

This top is truly something special. It has a gorgeous pattern and the colors just pop.

Ann Taylor, Embroidered Bubble Hem Top, $48
I love a good bubble hem because it looks a little more put together. This top also comes in blue.

Forever 21, Embroidered Daisy Top, $19
I chose this top because it goes along with the mod trend that we'll be seeing this season.

I can't think of an outfit you couldn't wear this with. Pair it with orange linen shorts, a gray suit, you name it.

Embroidery comes with all kinds of price points, so find a pattern that you love, and I promise you will find something in your budget. Thrift stores and secondhand shops are also a gold mine for this stuff.
