Drop it Like its a Dress

A great trend this year is bringing back the colorful prints and shapes from the 60s. One of those iconic shapes is the drop waist dress. It's funky, casual, and in my opinion, it's confident. Lets look at some fall/winter options you can add a denim jacket to or some tights.

I'd hold off for a great promo code from JCrew because they always seem to have them for sale items. If you can't wait, I totally understand and support you.

I absolutely love the way this dress fits. Like a glove. Go LBD or add a statement earring.

A little easier on the wallet and a great long sleeve option for fall.

Boden, Drop Waist Tunic Dress, $88
Oh you want a layering option? Boden has got you covered.

The drop waist is a really fun shape to try with tights and flats or an oxford and bootie. I love this look.

Swing Dancing

As we hang on to the last few weeks of summer I thought we would take a look at one of my favorite dress silhouettes, the swing dress. This shape is the opposite of tailored. It's just what it sounds like: swingy. Loose, breezy, soft and comfortable.

I'm starting with my favorite. I'm a sucker for green, but check out the movement on this dress. Just beautiful.

The elusive long sleeve version that has a gorgeous deep scoop back.

Urban Outfitters, Adidas Tango Swing Dress, $80 $39
A simple, girly polka dot that I would pair with sneakers and a neon necklace

Dorothy Perkins, Alice & You Black Lace Swing Dress, $69
Great details on this little lace number. Wear it now with sandals and later with some sassy tights.

A great swing dress is comfortable, versatile and girly. You can also head to the buffet without worry.

For A Brighter Tomorrow

Can we talk yellow for a moment. Sorry, hello, how was your weekend? Great? Great. I really feel like yellow is having a moment. It's sunny, bright, eye catching and perfect for a look-at-me dress.

River Island, Yellow Stepped Hem Shift Dress, $80
Can we just look at this structural masterpiece? The tiered cap sleeve, the exposed zipper. This is ready for work, for a night on the town or a wedding depending on your accessories.

The great this about this ruffle peplum dress is the fabric. It's a scuba fit that will hug you in all of the right places.

Anthropologie, Matepe Dress, $99
And for something a bit more boho, this dress fits the bill. Flowy with a lace detail, this is the perfect summer dress.

Modcloth, A Butter Tomorrow Dress, $69
You may find this simply yellow dress a snooze, but I bed you to look at the back. Boom. The sweetest surprise.

Whether you're looking for a breezy weekend dress or the perfect wedding frock, the yellow dress is going to make your life so much easier.

A Plus Student

You know what's great about dresses? Everything. I know that doesn't really narrow anything down for you, so I'm going to. Today we're looking at printed a-line dresses under....wait for it...$50. Yep. Simple, sweet, and cheap.

Dorothy Perkins, Damask Printed Dress, $44
The print on this dress makes it so classy and elegant, I might add a red of gold skinny belt.

Modcloth, Interior Designer Dress, $47
We all know I'm a sucker for dots and this springy hue is right up my alley.

Well we all know and love Target and its collaborations, and this dress is one of the more tame ones from Prabal.

Forever 21, Tribal Print A-Line Dress, $24
I'm not always a fan of the tribal print but the colors in this dress are so light and airy.

Ok, did I deliver? A lines under $50. Guaranteed to flatter just about any shape.

Dresses for Dad

As the holiday dinners are approaching, I don't know about you, but I spend a long time staring into my closet trying to find the perfect dress for dinner with the family. In my family this doesn't mean sequins and sparkles but it also doesn't mean jeans. What's the happy medium?

Anthropologie, Eton Marble Dress, $69
This dress also comes in a beige pattern. I really like the artistic element of the piece.

Ann Taylor, Cowl Neck Sweater Dress, $74
You really can't go wrong with this simple and dependable sweater dress. Add a belt and some drop earrings.

Old Navy, Polka dot shiftdress, $34
More casual dinner? Try this simple but sweet shirtdress with a metallic flat.

Zara, Printed Dress, $59
I think this is a great dress for dinner or work. The pattern is very interesting but busy enough you can add some baubles.

What do you wear for holiday dinners with family? I find packing one easy dress vs four layering pieces is so much easier for traveling.

Fill Me Up

I'm a sucker for a great dress, and these days, there's so many options. Right now though, I'm craving something a little fuller. A little girlier. The full dress fits the bill.

This beautiful dress has so little going on but it makes such a statement. The belt is a great definer of the waist while the high neck gives it a great vibe.

Urban Outfitters, Cooperative Knit Twill Dress, $59
The long sleeve aspect of this dress makes it perfect to wear in the chillier weather.

Hello pattern. Just wonderful blend of colors. The thicker straps is also nice for us girls who need straps on their bras.

Think of the accessorizing opportunities with this number. Belts, bib necklace, chandelier earrings, the options are endless!

Sometimes super fitted needs to stay in the closet, there is something so special about a fuller skirt to a dress. Not just for special occasions.

Sheer Bliss

Sheer is huge this year, from the red carpet to everyday wear. I really like the trend when it's not super sexy, but more understated and feminine. Take a look at these options.

This dress is so adorable for the weekend. The print is just lovely.

Ooo I just love this piece! So sleek and so sophisticated.

T Tahari, Tova Sequined Dress, $89
Ok, I usually don't post items with limited sizes; but how could I resist this beauty?

Well hello Mad Men. This natural waist dress is just spectacularly feminine.

How are you wearing sheer this season? Special occasions only?

Turkey Day Couture

Hey there lovebugs! Happy Monday to you, and happy short work week to you!

Today I thought we'd look at a couple of dress options for Thanksgiving dinner. If you're anything like me, you need some room to breathe and still get the 'omg I love your outfit' from the relatives. So let's see what's easy, affordable, and adorable.

This dress would be so easy to dress up or down depending on your family's dress code.

Target, Alec Sweater Dress, $39
This mod style is perfect for tights and a boots.

J Crew, Dream Sweater Dress, $99
I love this wool cashmere blend from J Crew. This dress is just dying for a long layered locket necklace.

This is perfect for a dressier dinner. Comfortable and versatile.

Dot Dress

Happy Wednesday lovebugs! Today we're talking my favorite pattern: polka dots.  I love polka dots for fall and winter because they warm up any outfit.  Today let's look at polka dot dresses.

Forever 21, Polka dot and lace dress, $24
A little lace mixed with some dots always makes a ladylike combination.

Modcloth, Southern Bell Dress, $57
Pair this with black tights for date night and I promise you will be the most beautiful girl in the room.

Zara, Polka Dot Dress, $49
I love the 60s chic this dress has; the dropped waist is so casual and easy.

Nordstrom, Adrianna Pappel Tiered Chiffon Dress, $89
I'm obsessed with this dress. The tiers, the chiffon, the print, just amazing. Reminds me of a Kate Spade dress.

Do you like to wear all over dots? I think it's such an easy print to pull off for day or night.

Slip Into Something

I'm talking about slips. But not to wear under skirts or when you need to borrow your mom's for some reason. I'm talking the new trend of slip dresses. Sexy, cool and oh so chic.

This dress wants so desperately to be layered! Blazer, tights, booties, you're done!

Bloomingdale's, Volcom jaw joplin dress, $55
I really love the polka dots that add a sweetness to this slip dress.

Nordstrom Rack, Parker Pleated Georgette dress, $99
I'm loving this number for a really special night.  Maybe an anniversary or New Years Eve.

Ok this dress has a bit more structure but the soft colors and light pattern offers such sweetness to this dress.

What do you think of the slip dress? For me it's something a little different because I prefer something with more structure, but for a special occassion, I think it's really nice.

Scarf Dress

Today we're talking scarf dresses.  Now you may be thinking of a handkerchief style, but no I mean scarf.  A tie neck dress if you will.  This style is huge for fall in blouses and dresses.

I love this abstract print and the 3/4 length sleeve. But please wear tights with this! It is short!

So sweet and secretary.  Now put on some patent leather pumps!

Need Supply, Betty Dress, $58
This color looks so vintage!

Fossil, Tawny dress, $39
What a fantastic graphic and the dropped waist is so interesting.

I really love a silk tie top or dress because it is so feminine.  Do you love it as much as I do?

Get in Line

Lovebugs,
Yesterday we talked button downs and I thought we'd continue that trend with military inspired dresses that are so often detailed with buttons, grommets, and other bling.

J Jill, Military Sweater Dress, $35 (!!)
I love this outfit with a pair of flat boots.  And the price? Hello.

I never really got into the chambray trend but this dress with these suede wedges- perfect.

J Crew, Jane Dress, $69
The v-neck, the pockets, the sleeves, the price! Buy it.

Lutz & Patmos, Short Dress, $79
Now this is how you dress up the military trend.  Black silk and a deep drape neckline.

Military jackets will surely be seen this fall, but why not try military dresses? Great with flat knee high boots of suede lace-up wedges.
