In Full Bloom

It's the last of the season for one of my favorite flowers - hydrangea. I love their fullness and bright colors. Believe it or not they also appear in fashion. This pretty floral makes a greta print!

Scarves are going to be big for fall and I like this one in particular because it's not big. It's skinny, manageable, and great for work.

Loft, Ruffled Maxi Dress, $98
Oh hello great addition to my summer/fall closet!

Lord & Taylor, Dooney & Burke Lexi Crossbody, $72
The perfect summer bag for any outfit.

Such a delicate waterfall of flowers. Almost watercolor-esque.

A great hydrangea is lush and aromatic. These picks will remind you of spring and summer all year long!

Go Ahead, Cross Me

Happy Monday lovebugs,
I hope you had a great weekend. Here we are back to the start of the week and I don't know about you but Mondays are for juggling. The email inbox, the to do list, the meetings, everything comes at once. You need both hands. You know what you carry when you need both hands? A crossbody bag.

Kate Spade Saturday, Assembly Crossbody Bag, $95
I love this bag for all of it's quirky details. A medical bag-style handle, the snap closure pocket, and the wax canvas.

How sweet is this bag? The color just pops and I think it's perfect for running around on a Saturday.

Nordstrom, French Connection Hyde, $38
You really can't beat this price point. I love this luggage inspired bag.

Is this little bag expensive? Yes. Is it a classic brand with quality materials in an adorable print? Heck yes.

A great crossbody is perfect for  a busy weekend day. Just toss in your essentials and walk out the door.

Lots of love,
Kels

It's in the Bag

Hey lovebugs!

A Hasty Life is gathering over 100 bloggers to do one simple thing: let people inside their purse! So I took some pictures (they're not so great, there's a reason I don't photograph things for this blog) but I hope you enjoy what's inside my purse!

A Hasty Life

This is my purse.  Dooney and Burke brown with gold hardware.  A gift from my mom.

The inside!!!

The contents.  Not so scary right? And yes that is my foot in the bottom left hand corner.

1. Kate Spade wallet.

2. White ribbon, I always carry one in case I put my hair up.

3. Keys!

4. Purse holder.  Tacky? Kinda.  Jealous? Every other woman at Happy Hour is!

5. Pen, hand sanitizer, lip glosses, and chap stick

1. Kindle.  I take it everywhere, I love it!

2. Reusable bag.  In DC we have a 5 cent tax on plastic bags so I bring my own.

3. Cole Haan sunglasses

1. Monogrammed business card holder.

2. Black leather gloves

3. Gap City flats.  I walk a mile to work everyday so I toss my heels in my bag and wear these lifesavers to work.

I hope you enjoyed! That's my go to bag in all it's glory.  Anything catch your eye?

Be fabulous today!

The Work Bag

The work bag. It can be a beautiful go-to item or a backpacking monstrosity. Especially in Washington, DC where you pretty much need to carry an entire second outfit in addition to your regular items in something that looks feminine and functional. Because lets face it, it's 104 degrees outside and 64 degrees in your office.

First of all, declutter your purse. That's right- bite the bullet and dump your purse upside down on your bed and start fresh. Take out the band-aid wrappers, the coins, the 16 pens that you can never find when you need them, and anything else that many have accumulated, expired, or leaked all over your bag. This is what I like to keep in my work purse:

-checkbook sized wallet
-business cards (in a sassy case)
-cell phone
-lipgloss & one chapstick
-liquid hand sanitizer (preferably CVS instant spray)
-keys
-Tide to go pen
-Kindle
-lunch sandwich
-Express newspaper
-umbrella (if needed)
-sunglasses
-work badge
-purse clip

Not too much right? Now onto the actual purse. If you have a backpack- just get rid of it. Backpacks are for people who go to school, they put textbooks in them, you however; have no excuse and you are ruining your outfit. Shame. Another bad move is the bag lady you know who you are. Women who carry two to four purses for some unknown reason. So what if you bring a change of shoes to wear at work, are they 6 inch platforms? No. You brought lunch? That's great! Unless its Thanksgiving leftovers you don't need a separate bag for it! My ONLY exception for the 2+ bag rule are the brave women who make it to the gym before or after work. They can bring an extra bag for toting their gymness.

Now onto the dos of work bags. I should also note that some of these bags will be a little more expensive then some of my other recommendations on the blog. I think once you find a work bag that suits you- invest in it because you'll use it for years!
