Fringe Benefits

Yesterday we talked tassels, today I thought we would keep the style going with fringe. Not always my favorite trend, but I like an understated fringe that isn't so boho festival chic. That's why I like fringe that is on a cropped jacket or cardigan.

A great shape with an eye-catching print.

The black label contrast really makes this cardigan stand out. I also love the bracelet bell sleeves.

Going a little western but with a structured silhouette.

The best option for layering. And the cotton is marled so it's crazy soft.

While fringe isn't always my style, a structured and tasteful amount can be something different for my everyday look.

Faux Real

Hello from the inside lovebugs,
I must have Netflixed 1,000 times. Here in DC we have two feet of snow and while it's awesome, it's also cold. So today I thought we would warm things up with some faux fur/shearling outerwear that puts my utility puffer coat to shame.

The look of true shearling but without the price. I really love the soft leather and asymmetrical zipper.

Amazon, Jessica Simpson Wool Anorak, $220 $56
Originally $220, this jacket is a steal! Heavy wool but you can define a great waistline with the drawstrings.

Look at this slimming quilting seam along the torso. A beautiful winter white.

Modcloth, Toasty Transit Coat, $89
Who doesn't love a great toggle coat? This one has lovely details with patch pockets and a full zipper.

So stay warm and stylish this week with whatever you have. This snow isn't melting any time soon so why not stand out with your outerwear?

Mixed Media Blitz

Let's talk outerwear. We're somewhere near the halfway point of winter and I don't know about you, but my wool coat isn't exciting me anymore. That's why I've been eyeing these mixed media jackets. They are giving my coat closet some energy and still keeping me warm this winter.

This jacket is almost 70% off right now. I love the tough girl style with the softer quilted sleeves.

Speaking of amazing sales, check out this jacket. I love some buffalo plaid and this makes it a little preppy!

Lord and Taylor, Mixed Media Bomber Jacket, $66
Simple details, including the contrasting zipper makes this coat pop.

I liked this bomber because its not the usual cropped waist. It's a bit more relaxed and casual.

So let's mix up the outerwear conversation and mix in some alternatives. Mixed media coats.

Oh Shear

Guys, it's cold. I'm not particularly upset about it because I like cold weather and it's mid-November, it's time. I also like the cold because it means its fantastic coat time. There are a lot of trends for outerwear this year. From cocoon to wrap to mixed media; but the one I really love because it mixes utility with sass, is shearling.

I love that this jacket mixes motorcycle style with blazer notched label. A great blend of rocker and prep.

A crazy twist on shearling with this longer option. So much sass.

Piperlime Collection, Coated Shearling Jacket, $87
There are jackets and then there are jackets. This is the latter. Attention to detail like an asymmetrical zip and waist hem buckle.

A classic look with khaki and cream. I love the oversized fold over collar.

Keep warm and cozy this winter with shearling. It mixes comfort with chic and who doesn't want that  when it's frigid outside?

The Young and The Collarless

Sometimes the weather gets wacky. You know what I mean, it's 72 degrees at lunchtime and then in then evening comes along and your shivering. I hear ya. What to do? We're way past winter coat season but owning 684 pashminas isn't really cost effective either. Try this trend: the collarless jacket. It's simple, chic and easy to throw on and go.

A modern take on moto, a little stripe to prep it out.

A great light denim jacket that is the perfect spring jacket. Think of it with shorts or even, wait for it, a patterned spring dress.

Nordstrom, Chelsea28 Lace Hem Coat, $88
Bracelet sleeve is fantastic for work. I love the contrast of the modern and feminine.

Dorothy Perkins, Diamond Cropped Jacket, $44
A vintage look with a beautiful pattern. Pair it with a pink pencil skirt.

Who needs to pop their collar when, well, you don't have one. Try this sassy trend for the chillier spring and summer nights.

Belting an Hourglass

Well, here we are, back to work. What a bummer. But, at least its a short week right? Today and tomorrow we're going to look at some cold weather items. Today we're looking at belted coats because you don't have to look like a sack when you get all bundled up. Add a belt to add some curve to your warmth.

Macy's, Steve Madden Funnel Neck Belted Flared Coat, $99
This beautiful tweed is perfect for work of play. I love the skirt like hem on the bottom as well.

Nordstrom, Kristen Blake Belted Coat with Faux Fur Trim, $99
I love this utility coat with the faux leather detailing, and the hood is removable!

Modcloth, Euro Es-Cape Coat, $95
Hello stunner! I love this cape because it has a more structured look to it vs a poncho.

Dillard's Anne Klein Colorblock Belted Coat, $89
Personally, I'd pop the collar on this bad boy and add a beautiful cream scarf.

Adding a belt to a coat instantly adds an hourglass figure. And if you want, pull out the belt that comes with and add a slim belt of your own! I'd recommend a pop of neon or sparkle.

Mission Accomplished: Anorak

Cooler weather means an extra layer, an outer layer. It's not time for the winter coat but you definitely want something extra. A great option is the anorak. It comes in a variety of styles and colors and it's a great throw on and go casual coat.

Old Navy, Women's Hooded Anorak, $49
This is a great option under $50, and it comes in four other colors.

I'm not entirely certain what's going on underneath this coat, some sort of camo jumpsuit I believe? That aside. Michael Kors makes a great longer length anorak, great for work.

This inner drawstring is great to create a waist and the plum color is perfect for fall.

Nordstrom, Megan Hooded Anorak, $88
The olive tone gives this coat a great army look. A great one for the weekend.

What kind of coat do you layer on for this cooler weather? Quilted, trench or maybe an anorak?
