Hats Off- Wait no...

Happy almost Friday! Today we're looking at keeping our noggins warm. I have a huge head. No really, a massive noggin. The good news about having a huge head, you look pretty good in hats. Here are some of my favorite winter caps.

Nordstrom, Wool Cloche, $38
I really fell in love with this ladylike hat. It's sleek and beautiful for a cold and windy day.

Anthropologie, Bead Dusted Beanie, $38
This casual cool cap is very cool when added to a leather motorcycle jacket or a knee length wool. Very versatile.

Urban Outfitters, Coal Linette Bow Beanie, $36
This gray will go with absolutely everything. Dress it up or down and just smile with that bow on your head.

And what about an old school pom hat? Simple, adorable and so cute in these colors.

Are you a hat or earmuff girl in the winter? I go back an forth depending on my hair that day. No doubt  the hat is the coziest option!

My Fair Isle

Happy Monday lovebugs, I hope you are blasting the holiday music in your cubicle this week and spreading the cheer. Today's post is a reader request. She is looking for fair isle that isn't gramma but also within budget. Let's see what we can find.

Fair isle can often be dressy and stuffy. The drop sleeve and split hem gives this sweater the perfect amount of casual.

I really love the color combination in this sweater, its so warm and inviting!

How about some fair isle for a party? This is holiday sexy.

Modcloth, Winter Intern Top, $37
A fabulous peplum fair isle! You can wear it alone (with a bottom please) or layer a button down shirt underneath.

Fair isle is a staple for winter and these sweaters are a perfect addition to your closet. Keep your eyes open for fair isle tights and bottoms too!

Winter Blues

Happy Tuesday lovebugs,
It's getting frigid in DC and sometimes the cold weather depresses my wardrobe too. But a go to perk up for any outfit is a great, punchy blue. Nothing crazy, but a staple piece that is easy to add to any outfit.

Tinley Road, Bloussant Dress, $69
Well hello color block perfection aren't you a beauty?

So light and classy, perfect for a statement earring.

Lands End Canvas, Cotton Cashmere Cardigan, $24
You guys, the price on this, go buy it now! I love it!

Perfect for layering under a sweater of with jeans on the weekend.

How do you spice up your wardrobe on chilly winter days? Any pattern or color you go to?

Cable Town

One of my favorite sweaters are those with a chunky cable. It's super cozy when you want to throw something on on a cold Saturday, but you can belt it or add a long necklace to dress it up for work.

This is very Rachel Berry from Glee and I love it.

I love this cozy casual cardi. It's perfect for the weekend.

Banana Republic, Cable Knit Sweater Vest, $29
Hello fabulous price! Layer central, I love this.

Banana Republic, Shrunken Cable Knit, $59
I want to wear this all through November. Just yes.

How do you wear cable? It's definitely a preppy style but I just love it.

Reader Request: School Bags

Hey Lovebugs! How was your weekend? Did you taken advantage of the Gap Friends and Family Sale? Any other good buys?

Today's post is from a reader who wants a new bag for school; something that can hold textbooks, laptop, and look fabulous too. Let's see what I can find.

I love this bag for school. Fantastic pattern and neutral colors.

Urban Outfitters, Deena and Ozzy Buckle Tote, $69
I love this bag! It reminds me of a Legally Blonde bag toughened up a bit.

I love the dual straps on this bag. It looks very durable.

Canvas, 1963 Washed Tote, $49
I love Lands End Canvas more and more every day. The price on this sturdy tote is just right.

So what would you carry if you didn't have to wear a backpack?

Get in Line

Lovebugs,
Yesterday we talked button downs and I thought we'd continue that trend with military inspired dresses that are so often detailed with buttons, grommets, and other bling.

J Jill, Military Sweater Dress, $35 (!!)
I love this outfit with a pair of flat boots.  And the price? Hello.

I never really got into the chambray trend but this dress with these suede wedges- perfect.

J Crew, Jane Dress, $69
The v-neck, the pockets, the sleeves, the price! Buy it.

Lutz & Patmos, Short Dress, $79
Now this is how you dress up the military trend.  Black silk and a deep drape neckline.

Military jackets will surely be seen this fall, but why not try military dresses? Great with flat knee high boots of suede lace-up wedges.

Walking to Work

Being a city girl, I walk to work and about everywhere else so I carry my heels in my purse.  That being said I refuse to wear sneakers with a work outfit, so today let's talk walking flats.

Gap, City Flat, $39
I'm obsessed with these shoes.  They fold up into their own little bag and they're the best for walking to work.

Fossil, Maddox Flat, $39
How great are these? The oversized buckle is so chic.

Lands End Canvas, Mackenzie Plaintoe Ballet Flat, $39
I like this suede with the bright yellow.

Believe it or not these payless flats have memory foam in the sole.  Perfect for walking.

I don't believe a walking flat should cost a lot of money because it's going to take a lot of wear.  From the pavement, from the weather and from being scrunched into purses.  So find something cheap, comfortable and cute, and you will have happy feet!

It's Hip to be Square

Right angles, straight lines, crisp and clean.  I'm loving a square print right now!  Check out these picks.

American Apparel, Vintage Silk Square Print Shift, $65
Ok, so the model looks miserable, but this color and groovy print is just perfect for some metallic sandals.

I'm loving this blouse now with a white pencil skirt for work and then in the winter with a yellow cashmere cardigan.

Sorry the picture isn't great, but I love this for errands on the weekend or a trip to the park with a book for the afternoon.

Canvas, Madras Scarf, $13
This is nice for a cooler summer night.  I'm picturing it with chino shorts and a t shirt.

I really like the square print because it's a fun take on stripes.  Be careful with the size of print, make sure it is in proportion to your size.

Summer Nautical

Hi there lovebugs,
How was your weekend? I know some of my DC ladies took part in the fashion show brunch- so congrats to them!

Today I wanted to talk about summer nautical.  Not just stripes, but also canvas ropes, anchors and sperrys.

Modcloth, Style is style dress, $73
I'm obsessed with the vertical and horizontal stripes on this piece.  So much going on and yet so sleek

Urban Outfitters, Anchor bracelet, $9
Super cute for weekend

Sperry=preppy nautical.  You can't go wrong

Lands End Canvas, Nautical rope belt, $25
I would love this with a navy shift dress

Finding a striped dress is easy.  I think putting it together with the right accessories is the tough part.  Think light and breezy with colors and more structure when it comes to material.

Defining Graphic

Usually when you hear the term graphic in fashion you think of a pattern.  I want to break it down back to the word's base: graph.  I'm loving the graph print right now because it's interesting to look at and always professional.

Madewell, grid paper boyshirt, $79
I like this super masculine cut.  Girl it up with pearls and a skinny belt.

Forever 21, bowtie blouse, $16.90
Speaking of girling it up.  How adorable would this be under a black suit?

Figleaves, falke vittoira, $15
These tights are fun and different for the office.

Canvas, plaid wool skirt, $20
I LOVE this skirt, it's not mini and it's so professional.  I'm also LOVING the price!!!

Maybe the reason I love this type of print is because I love Excel.  I love when everything has it's own assigned box.  It's neat and organized.  That's what these picks remind me of- organized fabulousness.

Canvas & Leather

Happy Monday & Happy Valentines Day lovebugs,
How was your weekend?  Mine was exciting.  My sister and I went up to Buffalo to surprise my grandpa for his 90th birthday!  Wild!

Do you have plans for tonight? Special date night? Rom-com night in?

Today's topic is leather and canvas bags.  They are such a great mix because they are casual and tough.  Most of these styles are either tote or shoulder bags which also makes them super easy to throw everything into.

Lands End Canvas, Washed Tote, $50
This is a fantastic weekend bag.  Errands, brunch, you name it.

Urban Outfitters, BDG Canvas Tote Bag, $68
Great double handle options here.  Reminds me of a chic school bag!

I love the hardware on this bag.  It's the perfect amount of girly and utility.

Michael Stars, Asymmetry Clutch, $80
Oh hey there unexpected! How great is this little bag?

So remember canvas and leather are great for casual-ready-for-anything outings.  They're versatile and durable!

Resort Season- So not cool.

Happy Monday lovebugs.  If you're at work today, I'm very sorry and I hope this post will keep you company for a bit.  If you're not, enjoy the extra sleep and take advantage of the whole day!

Today's post stems from one of my pet peeves.  Resort season.  It's when some of my fave stores (I'm looking at you J Crew) whip out bathing suits, sun dresses and flip flops during January and February because that's when people go on vacations and cruises.  Now I don't know about you but I'm currently sitting in Washington, DC with no upcoming vacay in sight on my calendar.  So the thought of bikinis, sun, and hotel are just mean to me! Can I get an amen?

Where am I going with this?  Today I will be featuring a pattern that is usually summer-chic but I'm digging it right now!  So we may not be going on vacation soon but let's enjoy this fun and whimsical pattern: Gingham.

People.  This shirt is $17.  Hello.  Go buy it.  Layer it under a wool gray sweater or try it with skinny jeans untucked!

Asos, Check full skirt, $51
Love this! It's flouncy and the waistband is adorable.  Also loving how the model paired this fem skirt with oxfords.

Asos, Vero Moda short, $48
vertical flat pocket, high waisted, gorgeous color, this is a great piece to have in your wardrobe.

J Crew Factory, Gingham perfect shirt, $54
Look at the darting at the sides of the bust line, this is not your BF's shirt.  It's going be a great fit.

So vacations or not, here is a nice, warm pattern that will remind you Spring isn't too far away.  Try mixing this print into your winter rotation.  Just because you're not getting fabulously tan doesn't mean you can't work it.
