Come Sail Away

Here we are. Friday Eve. Thank goodness. I'm ready for the weekend, sunshine, and summer. While I might be city bound, I'm dreaming of the sea. I love the boat motif for women's clothing because it's graphic yet nautical. You don't need stripes or high waisted sailor pants (though, they don't hurt) you can wear a boat and they're adorable.

Jack Wills, Raddery Sailing Print Dress, $89
So sweet. I love this for a night out on the (beach) town.

A simple tank that is completely versatile, heck I'd wear it under a blazer to work on a Friday.

Shirt dress in the most unique shape. Check out the way this waist knot nips in at then waist.

Half off right now!! And look at the detail with the ship wheel ties!

Whether you're going to the surf or stuck on the sand, the boat print is perfect for summer!

Hello there lovebugs,
Did you spring forward? Are you feeling springy? I hope so because today we are looking at some fantastic spring sneakers. These are not meant for running or lunging, these are meant for brunching and exploring. These are Saturday and Sunday sneakers.

Told ya. Stripes, glitter, pick your color because these beauties come in a handful.

Pop of color with shorts and a chambray shirt.

A simple and goes with everything shoe for the weekend. The price is right and its slip on.

A beautiful vintage print with a classic lace up shoe.

Get ready for spring without needing a pedicure with these sneakers. They're comfortable, stylish, and have their own personality.

Espadrille to Thrill

It's summertime which means it's espadrille time. Even us city girls can pretend we're on vacation with these sandals. I love the beachy feel of these shoes and with the right dress, completely work appropriate.

Oh hi, I'll have a Tom Collins and yes, this white dress is machine washable!

Fourth of July may be over, but these wedges are ready for summer.

A pop of red will look great with your summer pedicure.

How about a little less cotton and a little more leather?

I love espadrilles for summer for a casual, cool look. Pair them with a sundress, jeans, or shorts! They go with everything.

Casual Kicks

Sticking with shoes from yesterday, let's continue the trend and look at something warm and casual. The relaxed shoe/sneaker that is your go to for weekends from now until September.

The iconic print from Gary Malin just screams summer with the perfect summer shoe: Sperry.

I've been tracking these floral slip ons for some time. Now they're on sale, and it's time to purchase.

I really love this seashell color because I'd pair these with printed shorts or dress down a sundress.

Spring anyone? How adorable are these splatter paint sneakers?

Casual, comfy, and ready for spring. I am loving the sneakers this season.

Cover It Up

Continuing with the vacation theme this week we're going to look at some great bathing suit cover ups! With these, I look for versatile options that dry quickly and easily.

Piperlime, Pareo Sarong, $42
A great option for running around at the beach or pool, tie and go!

Victoria's Secret, Wrap Cover Up Dress, $39
You've seen this all.over.Pinterest. And rightly so, it's so easy, so simple, it just works.

How about a maxi cover up? I love this shade of green.

Sperry, Romper Cover Up, $34
How about a sassy nautical romper? So fun!

Do you buy a cover up for summer or use a tee and shorts? I just love a simple, under $50 swim cover up.

Splish Splash

While here in DC we haven't had a ton of rain, it is the season for April showers, so let's look at some fabulous rain boot options! (Please note: I'm thinking about you Midwest, please stay safe during this time of flooding!)

Chooka is a great brand when it comes to rain boots, they have a ton of styles and patterns to choose from too. I'd recommend sizing up.

This is a classic look for a rain boot. The quilted rubber makes it appropriate to wear with just about anything.

Well are these just the cutest thing you've ever seen or what? I love the pop of pink!

Tommy Hilfiger, Wrestley Tall Rain Boots, $69
I don't know what it is about these boots but I really like them. They're quite rugby/equestrian/early morning fog-ish.

What do you sport in the rain? Are you a rain boot or shoe kind of girl? Hopefully the saying rings true, April showers will bring the May flowers!

Metal Meets Loafer

Happy almost Friday lovebugs,
Today we're looking at some loafers, but these aren't your mom's loafers. We're looking at metallic loafers. Sassy, cool and eye catching.

Piperlime, Bass Wendybird 2, $99
If you want one heck of a sturdy shoe, get Bass. The cost per wear will make the price worth it.

Fossil, Calabash Loafer, $98
How about these with some ankle pants? I love the menswear look these loafers have.

Neiman Marcus, Cole Haan Air Tali Loafer, $56
You see that word 'air' in these Cole Haan loafers? That means Nike designed this shoe. That means you can walk a mile in these shoes. You're welcome.

Sperry Top Sider, Brooks, $80
Even Sperry, the boat shoe experts, make a great loafer. I love the snake print on this gold metallic.

Loafers are huge for fall. You've got smoking loafers, penny loafers, you name it. Try out a metallic loafer to add some spice to your outfit.

Summer Living

Hey there lovebugs, happy Monday to you. I hope you had a great weekend. I spent some time at the dog park and catching up with old friends who were in town.

Today I wanted to let you in on a little secret and it's what I live in during the summer- boat shoes. I love my boat shoes because they're comfortable, they come in a bajillion colors and styles and they're perfect for walking around the city.

Please thank The BF this morning for letting me know that Sperry has 10% off code this morning
it is NSBC12.
I love the distressed look of this shoe. It's perfect for shorts of bf jeans.

Hello neon! I think this shoe is just screaming for some chambray.

Asos, Loveboat shoe, $34
How sweet are these shoes? The heart detail, the tassel and the pretty ice cream pastel colors.

Nine West, Clarence, $39
These are perfect for a sundress. The silver would match just about anything and they are very easy to dress up or down.

What is your go to summer shoe in the summer? Flip flops, sandals or something else? When I don't have a pretty pedicure, you will always find me in my Sperry's.

Reader Request: Winter Shoes

Hey lovebugs! Today's post is a special request for my fabulous sister. She is looking for something warm and fashionable to wear this winter on her feet.

Urban Outfitters, BDG Hidden Wedge Hiker Boot, $89
These are fabulous. A great wedge makes this boot like a high heel.

This is so my sister. It's a little hipster with a little prep.

These are a cute shearling with a military look.

Sperry, Shearwater Booties, $98
I'm obsessed with these. They're so cool!

This was one of the harder requests I've gotten lately. It's hard to keep feet dry, warm and look sassy. What do you wear?

Summer Nautical

Hi there lovebugs,
How was your weekend? I know some of my DC ladies took part in the fashion show brunch- so congrats to them!

Today I wanted to talk about summer nautical.  Not just stripes, but also canvas ropes, anchors and sperrys.

Modcloth, Style is style dress, $73
I'm obsessed with the vertical and horizontal stripes on this piece.  So much going on and yet so sleek

Urban Outfitters, Anchor bracelet, $9
Super cute for weekend

Sperry=preppy nautical.  You can't go wrong

Lands End Canvas, Nautical rope belt, $25
I would love this with a navy shift dress

Finding a striped dress is easy.  I think putting it together with the right accessories is the tough part.  Think light and breezy with colors and more structure when it comes to material.

It's Raining Fashion!

This past Sunday there was a freak, but insane rainstorm that plowed through DC. I dedicate today's post to those who were entirely unprepared for that little treat. And for the future, let's talk about some stylish and appropriate rain gear.

First and most importantly, a good umbrella. This one is by far my favorite brand even though they could use an update on their patterns: Bright Nite Lighted Umbrellas. I love them because they're lightweight, and as their name suggests they have a tiny light bulb in the top that makes me feel a little bit safer walking around DC on the dark and stormy nights. The umbrella also is windproof so you won't have any of those embarrassing inside-out incidents that destroy your hair for the day and make you look like an idiot.

Bright Night, Ripple Effect, $38

Next the raincoat. Two options: colorful and bold (old school) or a classic trench. Let's start with the fun one!

Gap, Hooded Rain-coat, $34

If you're going to do a trench, fit is very important. You've gotta get the right length or else you'll look like you're playing dress up with your mom's rain gear. I like the classic khaki trench, it's versatile from work to play and you can dress it up with a silk scarf while still rocking the Carmen San Diego look. And if you're going with the classic look please just bite the bullet and INVEST! It will be worth it because this style isn't going anywhere!

Banana Republic, Classic Trench, $198

Finally the footwear. I think this is the place to have the most fun considering what a comeback rain boots have made lately. In my opinion, go wild! Please, take them off once you get to work but otherwise, the sky is the limit. Here are some of my favorites:

Tamara Henriques, Women's Rubber Shoe, $80

Zappos, Sperry Top Sider, $50

Target, Zulima Bias Plaid, $24
And don't forget when it gets colder, Target also sells rain boot fleece liners for $10.

Stay dry!
