Pop Quiz, Bro

Pop vocabulary quiz. Brocade. What does it mean. [insert Jeopardy music here] Ok, time's up. Brocade come from the Italian broccato meaning "embossed cloth". It often uses silver and gold thread and packs the pattern punch. Now a pattern like brocade can sometimes be heavy, old fashioned, and not necessarily spring-weather ready. The way we can warm up this style is brighten the color, use metallics to our favor and, well, let's take a look.

The lime color here is perfectly citrus and lightens up the floral-inspired pattern.

J Crew Factory, Gilded Jacquard Top in Brocade, $79
The rounded hemline is the least awesome thing going on here and that's saying something. The cut, the color, you really can't beat this minty emerald canvas.

Modcloth, Debut Dramatist Dress, $54
Another way to lighten up this pattern is to mimic the pattern on a simple cotton maxi. This oversized pattern balances perfectly with the longer length.

BB Dakota, Joss Jacket, $30
A cute baseball jacket is perfect to layer on with a tee. Unclear why this model is giving us the stink eye.

Brocade is easy to wear in the winter month, Brighten up the colors and find light fabrics to wear it in the warmer months.

Jump On In

Hello lovebugs! Happy Tuesday to you! Winter got you down? Feeling bored with your go to sweaters and jeans? Well today I'm feeling adventurous. Let's go a little wild. Let's look at some jumpsuits. Yes, you heard me.

My good friend Lacey inspired me recently with this look which looks so easy and so chic. Whether you layer a jumpsuit with a blazer or jacket or go in alone, these pieces are a one punch knockout.

Forever 21, Retro Lace Jumpsuit, $22
You don't have to break the bank when trying this trend. Try this fantastic blue number and add on a chunky cream oversized sweater.

Sleek is the only word I would use to describe this outfit. It's not trying too hard but it wild demand attention when you walk into the room. Change the look from rocker to feminine with accessories.

Piperlime, Tinley Road Ashley Jumper, $74
As I said earlier, this is a great piece to add a long blazer. I love the merlot color.

Still not convinced? Try a jumpsuit that looks like two pieces! This one if just fabulous and ready for the party. Especially with this high waist and ruffle back!

Jumpsuits can sometimes remind me of Jenny from the Block, but with the right materials, fit, and color, you can absolutely try this trend and look fabulous.

Ease Into Mod

Mod is going to be huge this year and we'll be talking about it a lot, but let's ease into with some graphic black and white. A great pattern in a strong black and white is a great statement that will never go out of style.

Bloomingdale's, Aqua Dress Art Deco Sequin, $76
How about this beautiful dress? It is so easy to dress up or down with the shoes and jewelry. I just think the it's so interesting that the graphic is made up of sequins. Very unique.

White House Black Market, Perfect Form Geo Print City Pant, $84
Before you brush off these bold crops, know that there is 3% spandex in them. That's the perfect amount to make these wearable for just about any size.

Piperlime, BB Dakota Alven Coat, $57
I love the foldover shawl collar on this coat, it's a great option for right now when you don't need a down coat but it's not quiet spring jacket weather.

This is not what I think of when I hear lace, which is why I love it for work or even for a wedding!

A great black and white pattern that is past a standard dot or stripe is just what I need right now.

Paris Anyone?

Happy almost Friday lovebugs,
I've never been to France, but the French inspired trend is just beautiful for spring. And while some of my fellow bloggers like Nikki are much more experienced in this trend, I'm going to try it out.

It's so light and breezy, and the rosy color is so sweet.

The reason I like this dress is because it can be dresses up or down with the right shoes and jewelry.

BB Dakota, Sequined Mesh Skirt, $52
Ok, I'm not sure what happened to this model's shirt, but let's focus on the beauty of this little ballerina inspired sequined skirt.

Anthropologie, No 45 scarf, $58
The watercolor print of this silk scarf gives such a Parisian look to any outfit, or tie it to your favorite purse.

So how did I do? Did I honor the beauty that is French culture? I just love the soft and effortless style of this trend.

Textured Jackets

Hey there lovebugs,
How was your weekend? I took the day off on Friday because my mom was in town and we had a great day and even did a little shopping in Georgetown at Madewell, Loft, and Brooks Brothers.

Today I thought we'd look at some textured jackets. Since it's blazer season, sometimes the plain or even cuffed look can get tired. Here are some new items to spruce up the look!

This jacket would be perfect over a party dress for the holidays.

Anthropologie, Fouettes Bolero, $88
I really like gauzy look this has and the hook and eye closure is just enough.

I love this jacket. Bracelet sleeves, open front, just love it.

Urban Outfitters, Cooperative Sequin Jacket, $89
This just screams holiday party. Pair it with velvet heels and you're to go.

Blazers will always work with a party dress but why not try something a little flashier?
